Nerlens Noel plays his first professional basketball game today. Sure, it's in a media-only gym in effing Orlando, but we get to watch the Sixers 2013 first first round pick, acquired for our previous franchise point guard, for the first time ever. Lots of firsts today.
There are other things I'm excited about. Sean previewed things yesterday, and I could talk about some more here. K.J. McDaniels being added late to the roster. Aaron Craft jokes. Pierre Jackson and Casper Ware two point guard lineups. Muscley Hollis Thompson. Ronald Roberts, Jr. doing his best Rodney Williams impression. Travis Bader sinking 40 footers. Melvin Ejim looking fine in a Sixers uniform. Kim English being Kim English (on the Magic). Jerami Grant's raw raw raw ability. Just simply actual (semi) Sixers basketball being on.
But come on. Nerlens Noel. He's what we're watching for. We've been teased at for over a year. I've thought more about his ACL than I've thought of any other body part of any non-female human ever. I want to see him block the funk out of Aaron Gordon then be on the receiving end of a vicious alley-oop. Then I want him to block the shit out of Aaron Craft-- THIS IS SUMMER LEAGUE AARON CRAFT YOU ARE NOT A TRUE SIXER, WE WILL BRING THE VIOLENCE TO ANYONE, ANYWHERE, BLOCKING SHOTS AND CRUSHING DREAMS INDISCRIMINATELY.
It's important to keep in mind that this game does not count or matter, but at the same time: everything in the world is riding on this game, Nerlens. We're all counting on you. Validate the rebuild with one summer league game, please.
NERLENSANITY PREDICTION: 14 points, 16 rebounds, 7 blocks, 4 steals. 29 minutes.
Let's get crazy in Orlando in July. Thread it here. Good to have you.
