The 76ers, making their third selection of the second round at 47th overall, selected Russ Smith, point guard out of Louisville. And not being one to stand pat, Sam Hinkie immediately moved the pick to New Orleans for Pierre Jackson.
Pierre Jackson may be familiar - he was included in the Jrue Holiday trade as the 42nd pick in last year's draft. He never played in the NBA, however, as the Pelicans made the peculiar decision to just not sign him. It looks like they never wanted him to begin with.
Instead of signing with the Pellies, he was relegated to the D-League, where he tore everything apart. He averaged over 29 points and 6 assists per game in 41 total for the Idaho Stampede, winning league MVP in the process. A summer league star, Jackson should entertain again this summer and contend for the Sixers' backup point guard slot. A very solid move in the second round for Sam Hinkie.
