Rumors swirled for weeks that Thaddeus Young or MCW or a package of both would be dealt to yield the Sixers a third top-10 pick in this 2014 NBA Draft.
Moments after the Sixers drafted Louisiana-Lafayette point guard Elfrid Payton, a source told Liberty Ballers that the team was considering moving Thaddeus Young along with the lanky point guard. However, Young will be staying in Philly for the time being and Sam Hinkie elected to simply swap the rights to Payton for the rights to European big man Dario Saric, who the Orlando Magic selected at No. 12.
Saric had been the Sixers choice, and finally called Magic to offer Elfrid Payton with 30 seconds left on the clock, league source said.

Of note, Saric recently signed a 3-year deal with the club Anadolu Efes Istanbul. He has two years guaranteed with a potential buyout after the second already worked into his contract.
The Sixers also acquired Orlando's 2017 first-round pick with Saric, eliminating the pick they owed to Orlando as part of the Dwight Howard four-team blockbuster. They will also acquire the Magic's 2015 second round pick.
Sam Hinkie clearly isn't ready to press the fast forward button on this rebuild.
