2014 LB Community NBA Draft Big Board #8: Gordon Gone, James Young Added

The 2014 LB Community Big Board continues, as Aaron Gordon comes off the board with 62% of the vote. James Young, an 18 year old wing from Kentucky, has been added in his place.

Aaron Gordon, One of the players that some Sixers fans have been hoping would fall to them at 10, has come off the board.  All 3 of the major power forward (by most estimations) are now off the board, with Vonleh, Randle, and Gordon being drafted in succession.

The first bit of good news, if you're a Sixers fan who hopes that one of these 3 fall to the Sixers, is that there's a very good chance that the draft doesn't turn out this way.  I would be surprised to see Marcus Smart not selected somewhere in the top 7.

The other good news for Sixers fans is that there's still some tremendous talent available, with Marcus Smart, Nik Stauskas, and Dario Saric still on the board.   One of them will be available for the Sixers at #10 in this scenario.

We'll add James Young to the poll now.  Young measured in at 6'6'7.5" at the pre-draft combine, with a 7' wingspan and an 8'8" standing reach, which along with his 35.5" vertical paint one of the best physical profiles for a wing from the NBA combine.  He also shot very well with his feet set, connecting on 45.3% of his unguarded catch and shoot jump shots.  But his defense, shot selection, and overall decision making make him a fairly polarizing player.

Based on the results of the last poll, where nobody other than winner Aaron Gordon (62%) or runner-up Marcus Smart (30%) received more than 3% of the vote, it seems that Smart would be the clear choice here.  If it were my personal big board, Smart is certainly the prospect I have rated the highest, although his fit with Michael Carter-Williams is obviously of some concern.  That being said, there are those around the league who think Smart could play a significant amount at the shooting guard position as well.

I also think Dario Saric and Nik Stauskas deserve a little bit more love than they have been given, as both present intriguing skill sets that the Sixers could use.  Their fit depends somewhat on what happens above them with the 3rd pick, but both are very skilled and are deserving of serious consideration at this spot as well.

Who would you select?

7. Aaron Gordon (62%)
