It appears Chris Paul isn't the only superstar returning in tonight's game between the Clippers and Sixers. Brett Brown sees your CP3 and raises you one Arnett Moultrie. After six generations of sitting out from a surgically-repaired ankle slash not conditioning definitely not conditioning well maybe it's conditioning after all hey have fun in the D-League, Moultrie is active tonight in Los Angeles.
Pimp Slamp Alert!
Pimp Slap Alert!
Moultrie, in his second season out of Mississippi State, did some good things in last year's trainwreck of a season -- mostly crashing the offensive boards and being the only Sixers big man who could dunk -- but hasn't played since last April. He spent two games in Delaware to get his legs back, where he scored 24 points on 9-19 shooting and 7 rebounds in 54 minutes. He's played in back-to-back nights, so the odds of him playing much tonight are small. But against the Clips' bigs DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin, who took a combined 35 foul shots on Friday against Toronto, they'll just need the body.
Not sure what sort of role Moultrie figures to be in the rest of the season and beyond. A Spencer Hawes or Thaddeus Young trade could vault him into the starting lineup, which would be weird, and his option for next season has already been picked up. This could be showcasing him for a trade or it could be a "well, he's cheap and reasonably athletic and, uh, here, so why not?"
At the very least, I'm looking forward to some new Sixers to watch, even if it's an also-ran-chicken like Arnett.
Oh and I'll be at the game tonight, so look forward to me pretending to be a journalist on press row and in the locker room. That should be a treat.
