Kevin Grow to Sign Ceremonial Contract with the Sixers

Kevin Grow, a member of the Bensalem Boys Basketball team in lower Bucks County, PA, recently made national headlines, including an appearance on SportsCenter, after scoring 14 points in the team's regular season finale. Grow, who has Down syndrome, has been the team's student manager for four years. From Philly.com:

Grow, in his fourth-year as manager, played his first game a night earlier, hitting a foul shot before sinking a fastbreak layup. Video of the layup spread through social media and was played on a local newscast.

By the start of Saturday's afternoon game, the gym was packed to see Grow on Senior Day.

He came off the bench with two minutes left and knocked down four of his five three-pointers from the top of the key.

Grow finished with a game-high 14 points. His last three came just before the final buzzer and Grow's teammates mobbed him.

"It's tough to describe. It really is," [Bensalem Coach]Mullin said. "It's one of those things that doesn't happen often."

Grow worked on his three-point shot during Bensalem's practices this season. And the Owls do not end practice until Grow hits a free throw.

After signing in front of GM Sam Hinkie at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Grow will eat dinner in the players' lounge, tour the practice facility and receive Sixers gear. He will also join the team on the floor toward the end of practice, meet and shoot around with the players and chat with the Sixers' coaches.

Prior to Tuesday's home game against the Cavaliers, Grow will participate in pregame activities at the Wells Fargo Center, receive a custom jersey and have his own locker. Grow will also watch pregame warm-ups, take part in the high-five tunnel when players take the court and stand with the Sixers during the National Anthem. During a timeout, Grow and the Bensalem basketball team will take the court for a special presentation.

The video from the Courier Times is definitely worth watching - especially the interviews with the players from the opponent, Neshaminy High School. This is a great story, and kudos to all parties involved.

It's refreshing to see the positive and uplifting stories go viral for a change.
