The first camp casualty comes in, and it's not all that surprising. Ronald Roberts Woj-ed his own release:
got waived by the @Sixers today..thank you so much for the opportunity...my dreams came true! thank you to all my supporters il be back
— Ronald Roberts II (@RonaldRoberts5) October 25, 2014
Roberts played especially well for the Sixers at the Orlando Pro Summer League, earning a spot in Sixers camp because of his performance there. A St Joe's product, this is a bit of a letdown for Big 5 fans.. Roberts spent most of camp injured and, despite comparisons to Kenneth Faried by coach Brett Brown, most knew his days were numbered.
It is unclear at this point whether or not Roberts will spend time in the NBA's D-League. While an option that would work well for the Sixers, as noted by Derek Bodner, Roberts' father spent a decade playing basketball overseas. He may have a level of comfort some players may not in making the trip to Europe if a well-paying position opens.
The Sixers roster now stands at 19 players. They must cut to at most 15 by Monday, and the team may also be interested in other recently waived players. As more releases and transactions are confirmed, we will let you know.
