Per multiple reports, the Sixers have traded Casper Ware to the Brooklyn Nets for Marquis Teague and a 2019 2nd round pick.

The 2nd round pick is the one that Brooklyn received from Milwaukee. That pick will wind up being either Milwaukee's 2019 2nd round pick or Sacramento's 2019 2nd round pick, whichever is more favorable. This is one of the two picks that Brooklyn received as part of the Jason Kidd fiasco this past offseason.

Marquis Teague is on the third year of his rookie contract, which will pay him just over $1.1 million for this season. The Sixers will have to decide by the end of the month whether to pick up the 4th year of his rookie contract, which would be at just over $2 million.

Casper Ware had signed a 3 year contract this past offseason which was fully unguaranteed. Reports are that Brooklyn will waive him.

After being drafted 29th in the 2012 NBA draft out of Kentucky, Marquis Teague has struggled at stops with Chicago and Brooklyn, providing -0.8 win shares in 835 career minutes thus far. Still, he is only 21 years old, and could be a better fit in the uptempo offense Brett Brown employs.

The Sixers could, perhaps, feel better about Teague, in their system, as a backup point guard to Tony Wroten (and possibly Alexey Shved) than they would have with Casper Ware. More likely, the Sixers were willing to take on guaranteed salary for what could be a valuable 2nd round pick 4 years down the line, while also rolling the dice on a young player with some athletic talents who is only guaranteed for this upcoming season.

This is also likely to have an impact on the upcoming roster decisions the Sixers have to make, as Marquis Teague, with his guaranteed contract, is probably more likely to make the team than Casper Ware was. Although, with the lack of point guard depth with Michael Carter-Williams out to start the season, either one was likely to make the opening day roster.
