Michael Carter-Williams is the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year, so in a surprise to absolutely no one, the former Syracuse point guard will topline the rookie group in this years' Rising Stars Challenge on NBA All-Star Weekend. Similar to the Pro Bowl -- which everybody watched, I'm sure! -- the pool of rookies and sophomores will be split into two teams by a yet-to-be announced general manager. I'm hoping it's Eric Bischoff.

MCW leads all rookies in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and *shockingly*, minutes played. It's obvious that his stats are boosted by both the lack of other talent on the Sixers as well as the pace at which Brett Brown's team plays. Despite that, there's nobody who would argue Sam Hinkie made the wrong pick last June. Only guys who could even conceivably be in the discussion for best rookie are Victor Oladipo and Trey Burke, who will also take part in the festivities.

Joining MCW in the rookie pool will not be MVP candidate Hollis Thompson because the judges must have an East Coast bias against #HOLLISWOOD. Mason Plumlee got in despite playing almost half as many minutes as Thompson, who has started a solid handful of games this season. The nameless committee definitely considers more than just on-court success. Plumlee is the only participant from the Brooklyn Nets, which I'm sure counts for something. Kelly Olynyk and his 42% shooting from the field for a 7-footer will be there as well. Happy to see Pero Antic and GIANNIS in play. Pissed about Hollis though, for real.

Tony Wroten didn't make it either, but the sophomores are a bit more stacked, so I can't blame anybody for that. But I will anyway! #FREEWROT

Arnett Moultrie is currently waist deep in Twizzlers unaware of everything else around him. Good pick, Doug and Rod.

Cheer on MCW, picket Hollis's snubbing, and cuddle up to your loved one when the Rising Stars Challenge happens on Valentine's Day -- Friday, February 14th at 9:00.
