Rumor: Sixers Interested In Earl Barron

Despite having several big men already on the team competing for few roster spots, the Sixers are still looking for help.

An August rumor rears its ugly head once again.

Jared Zwerling of ESPNNewYork.com has reported that the Sixers, among other teams have expressed interest in journeyman Center Earl Barron:

For those unfamiliar with Barron, the 32 year-old has bounced around the NBA, as well as foreign leagues since graduating from Memphis in 2003. He started the 2012 season with the Washington Wizards, appearing in 11 contests before being waived in December.

The Knicks signed Barron after the retirement of Rasheed Wallace, and he played rather well in his only appearance with the club. He posted 11 points and 18 rebounds in 37 minutes of action.

A YouTube mix of Barron from 2012 gives you a look into his abilities.

Barron seems to run the floor pretty well, and on occasion can knock down a jump shot, but does not provide too much under the basket.

The Sixers have Kwame Brown, Thaddeus Young, Spencer Hawes, Lavoy Allen, Arnett Moultrie and Nerlens Noel (who won't play until December at the earliest) all under contract this year, and Arsalan Kazemi could also be thrown into the fray this year. Furthermore, German center Tim Ohlbrecht is currently with the club, and sources have expressed to LibertyBallers.com that former Temple center Micheal Eric could get a look in training camp.

He's verstaile enough to play both power forward and center, but with the amount of competition already on the roster, it seems unlikely that anything comes of this.
