Woj: Sixers Will Interview Brett Brown For HC Opening

Another name to be added to an expansive list of potential coaches, Brown currently is an assistant for the Spurs.

Another coaching candidate (Brett Brown) appeared! Go Woj! *insert Woj battle cry, which I assume is an angry DM*

After an interview with the Denver Nuggets that moved San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown's candidacy into strong contention for the franchise's head coaching job, the Philadelphia 76ers have sought and received permission to discuss their coaching opening with Brown, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Brown met with Nuggets officials on Sunday and emerged as a significant candidate in the team's search process, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

It is immediately unclear when Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie will meet with Brown. The Sixers have been moving deliberately on their coaching search and have several candidates in play as possibilities.

According to his profile on the Spurs website, Brown has been with the team since 2002, working in both player development and as an assistant coach. That dual profile fits well for a Sixers team building from the ashes, needing a coach with experience in player development. If he doesn't get this job, he'll likely ascend to the top assistant role previously held by Mike Budenholzer. He also coached professional teams in Australia for 14 years, and currently coaches the Australian national team, which is cool.

However, as Woj discussed, the Nuggets have a lot of interest in Brown as well. Former Spurs assistants and front office personnel can be found all around the league now, and most have had some degree of success and most are held in high regard. Almost everyone except for Vinny Del Negro, really.

The assumption has been that the Sixers will focus more on the coaching search after the draft concludes. I'd expect that doesn't change with this news. Don't worry, we'll get a coach eventually!
