New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis suffered a non-displaced fracture in his left hand in the Pelicans' game against the New York Knicks on Sunday night, the team announced. Davis won't return to the game and his timetable to return to action is to be determined.
Davis played 10 minutes before leaving the game, scoring seven points and grabbing four rebounds. The big man went to the locker room and returned to the bench wearing a wrap on his left hand.
The 76ers have seen twice already how amazing Anthony Davis already is. On the season, the 20 year-old second-year forward/center is averaging 19.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 3.9 blocks per game. Ryan Anderson figures to start in his place.
Obviously, this news means something to Sixers fans because the team has the rights to New Orleans' draft selection unless it falls within the top 5 selections of the draft. As it's currently uncertain how long Davis will be out, it's difficult to speculate how this impacts the selection. Kevin Love suffered a similar injury last season. He initially returned in about five weeks (which, according to CBS Sports' Zach Harper, was three weeks ahead of schedule) before re-injuring the same hand later in the season.
At this point, all we can do is wish Davis a speedy recovery. He's an amazing talent that I look forward to watching again soon.
