Man. I really don't care about this. The Sixers have their own issues to worry about without thinking about a guy that used to play for the team. Yes, Allen Iverson did more than just "play for the team" but so did Julius Erving and I wouldn't really care about him playing basketball in the Dominican Republic either. Would you?
Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but it's probably not for that much considering how broke AI is. Iverson is expected to arrive in the Dominican on Sunday and play later that day.
Here's a statement from your favorite all time president of Pueblo Nuevo, Milton Nunez:
"He and his agent have told us that he has been training a lot and that even if he hasn't been playing anywhere, he has what we need to help Pueblo Nuevo," Nunez said.
We've had a lack of Iverson coverage throughout this painful process simply because I don't think any of us want to waste our time writing about the basketball equivalent of Mickey Rourke. It hurts me to watch, I feel bad about it, but at the end of the day, he's just another guy who had no idea how to save his money. Divorce, child support, whatever else went into it -- the guy just could not take care of his money, and now he's playing in the Dominican Republic.
I'll always love AI, he was as big a part of my childhood as Ssips and Pasta Roni, but for the love of God please just go away before the Sixers sign him. I'd rather he do lame commercials to make his money than subject his body to more of the abuse he was so famous for as a Sixer. The sunset's right there, Allen. Ride off into it.
