Last week, I watched Roland Joffe's Spanish Civil War epic There Be Dragons. And it was bad. It was boring, and sloppy, and predictable, and by the end I was wishing for either the end of the movie or the cold embrace of death, whichever was more convenient.
The Sixers' 77-62 win over New Orleans tonight was basketball's answer to that movie, except it didn't have the advantage of starring Olga Kurylenko. And if the Sixers had played a game of this nature against Phoenix, you can bet your bottom dollar that I'd have called the postgame thread "There Be Dragic."
We had your usual spate of mishandled passes, offensive fouls, traveling violations...let me just say that if you decided to go on a date tonight and didn't get to watch the game, you made the right decision. And I hope that it went well, that that you really hit it off with that special someone, and that you got a second date.
But man, what a testament to mediocrity this game was. Allow me to present the following:
- Jason Smith: Led all scorers in the first half, despite not having played in the second quarter.
- Damien Wilkins: 11 minutes played.
- The Hornets' 62 points were a new franchise low, quite a statement for a franchise that counts Lee Nailon among its seasonal scoring leaders.
- Royal Ivey: 21 minutes played.
- Lavoy Allen not only played 27 minutes and took 10 shots, he had the highest plus/minus (+20) of any player in the game.
- The Hornets didn't break 50 points until 7:05 left in the fourth quarter. IN THE FORTIES. IN THE FOURTH QUARTER.
A more comprehensive recap is yet to come. For now, tell me your feelings--the comment section is down the hall, third door on your left, behind the storeroom and the john.
