The Philadelphia 76ers announced today that they have waived guard Xavier Silas and power forward/center Mikki Moore.
The moves bring the 76ers training camp roster down to 16, which means at least one more player will have to be released before the start of the season to reach the NBA roster limit of 15 players. In years past, Doug Collins and the 76ers have preferred to keep one roster spot open, employing a 14 man roster frequently.
The final cut(s) would likely come from the group of Dan Gadzuric, Devin Searcy, and Damien Wilkins, none of whom have guaranteed contracts beyond training camp.
Mikkie Moore has played 13 seasons in the NBA, most recently with the Golden State warriors for 7 games last season. Silas played 2 games with the 76ers at the tail end of last season and has been on the 76ers summer league team the last two years.
The team has wrapped up its last training camp practice and will fly to Orlando today for its first preseason game against the Magic tomorrow, which will not be televised locally.
