With free agency just having officially started, the Sixers have made their first wave of news and it is not a surprising one. Per Kate Fagan, Thaddeus Young is closing in on a deal to return to the Sixers next season and probably more.
#Sixers & restricted free agent Thaddeus Young are closing in on a deal to bring him back to the Sixers, multiple NBA sources have confirmed
We let you all speak at length about Thad a few days ago, but have yet to come out with our official stance on signing him. This is probably fitting because it all comes down to what the terms are. If we're talking a four year deal worth $50 million, that's one thing. If it's smaller or frontloaded or anything, then we could be slightly happier.
When it comes down to it, for me, Thad is a very very talented bench player. He's got a ton of ability but not much in the way of refined skill and, after four years in the league, I can't see him putting it all together. We love what Thad can bring to a good team but for the Sixers, a middling franchise with no realistic plans of contending in the near future, he's just another contract to weigh down the books.
I'm crossing my fingers that it's not more than $7 million per year. How are you feeling?
Also: Tony Battie was resigned. I can guarantee you at least a million words on this decision. They will not be good words.
