Undrafted free agent Xavier Silas has reportedly left his team overseas to appear at Sixers training camp, which is scheduled to start next week.
(Translated)
Xavier Silas, he, joined the training camp with the Philadelphia Sixers . "This rushed, confirmed the executive director , Hervé Beddeleem . Silas received an invitation from the Sixers. He hoped that the release of his contract ... what we agreed. "
Silas was only playing nine minutes per game overseas, and averaging 4.3 points.
As you may remember, I wrote a post about Silas receiving a verbal promise from the Sixers in July. Because of the lockout teams were unable to sign undrafted free agents, but the Sixers extended an informal training camp invitation to Silas, whenever the lockout ended.
Understandably Silas went overseas in the interim, but should be in camp with the Sixers next week.
Again, if you're unfamiliar with Silas, check out the post I wrote about him in July. His dad played in the NBA and he grew up around basketball. He averaged 22 points per game with Northern Illinois last season and prides himself on defense. I think there's a decent chance he could make the Sixers as an inexpensive guard to add depth off the bench. He's sort of similar to Jodie Meeks.
Since writing about him, Xavier has become a friend of the site and we've been in sporadic contact. He played a few games in the "Lockout League", in my hometown of Vegas, which I was credentialed for a few of the days. I spent some time with him and he's an interesting character and a humble dude. Here's to hoping he can make the team.
I hope to get something else up on Silas in the next week or two. In the meantime, he's someone to keep an eye on. If you want to follow him on Twitter his handle is @xaviersilas.
