Spencer Hawes Signs 1 Year Qualifying Offer with Sixers

Free agent Spencer Hawes told Y! Sports that he will sign the one year qualifier ($4.6 million) the 76ers presented to him ensuring his return Philadelphia for at least one more season. In signing this offer, Hawes will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2011-2012 NBA season. News of the signing came from none other than Adrian Wojnarowski (who else?):

Restricted free agent center Spencer Hawes will sign 1-year qualifying offer with Philadelphia, Hawes tells Y! Sports.

I'm not particularly excited about this whatsoever because we all know the kind of player Hawes is. The only positive thing that I can come up with is that it's not a long-term deal, something I was terrified was going to happen. Now all your dreams of seeing Spence and rookie Nikola Vucevic on the court at the same time can come to fruition.

If anything from Kate Fagan's tweet yesterday is to be believed, the next move we can look forward to is one that has Marreese Speights shipped off. Until that time comes, I guess it's welcome back Spencer?

Discuss/celebrate/vent depending on your feelings towards Spencer being a Sixer.

Update: After reporting signing, Fagan tweets about the possibility of moving Speezy

The 76ers now have 14 players under contract for 2011-12 season. Now that Young & Hawes are re-signed, #Sixers will look to move Speights.
