Dario and Sergio as "System Players" / Brett Brown future Coach of the Year Candidate?

I think this year will be a coming out party for a lot of our guys, but most importantly for Brett Brown. This will be the year he can finally show how good he is as a coach. There's a lot of emphasis on our players and how they'll grow and flourish individually and in a perfect world they'll all show promise but in an even more perfect world Coach Brown will be able to push each of them to new heights and implement an identity for the team and a system/style of play.

We all know Coach Brown is from the rich Spurs tree, so we have ideas on where his mind is when it comes to coaching. I think we have a really interesting group of guys with intriguing skillsets and characteristics. The team right now seems to be tailor made for a fast paced offense based around ball movement with so many gifted passers from Simmons, Saric, Rodriguez, and even Okafor. It's pretty clear what type of players Simmons, Okafor, and Embiid (if healthy) will be but it's less clear what guys like Saric and Rodriguez will be. Saric is great player with promise although he has some holes in his game and Rodriguez is also a good player who had a few rough seasons in the league when he was younger but I expect him to be better this time around considering he's grown as a player. The big question though for guys like them on the roster is; Can Brown turn these guys into system players??? In San Antonio the coaching staff is always seemingly able to take guys like Patty Mills, Danny Green, and Boris Diaw and turn them into players that flourish in their system. They do it by utilizing their individual skills and incorporating them into the grand scheme of team play. I'm hopeful that Brown can do the same with guys like Dario and Sergio.

Dario is a 6'10 pf/sf and he certainly has the heart and energy to be a great piece Brown can utilize as a coach. He's a great passer for his size and if he continues to develop his range he could be an incredible role player. I'm hopeful that he can be similar to Boris Diaw a few years back for the Spurs and even Hedo Turkoglu for the Magic during their Finals run. Sergio Rodriguez is a pg that can also pass the ball really well and he's also a capable shooter and he could be in a similar role to Patty Mills for the Spurs. Both guys have deficiencies on the defensive end but I'm not worried about that because we all know coach Brown preaches team defense which guys will learn as a unit instead of individually. But overall given the talent of our group of guys, I'd say it's all about ball movement on offense and team defense which could make us the spurs 2.0 (just imagine if we landed Manu this offseason). And on top of that, having a guy like Ben Simmons as our franchise player that can be Peyton Manning to our offense and Ray Lewis to our defense, I'd say we're in great shape.

(Sidenote) As far as the future, the 2017 draft looks like it'll be another huge step forward. I like Markelle Fultz and Frank Ntilikina if the Lakers pick lands at 5 or 6. Both guys are combo guards which gives us flexibility and they both project to be excellent defenders that'll be able to defend 3 positions. Like a double headed dragon in the backcourt.
