Ersan Ilyasova Must Be Resigned

Every game it seems as if Ersan Ilyasova gets more comfortable as the de facto leader of the Sixers. He is a veteran who plays hard every game and the spacing and defensive effort he brings makes every player on the team better. He's scoring 14 points and pulling down 6 rebounds per game, but those numbers are climbing quickly. What is truly amazing is his efficiency -- 46% FG, 38% 3P, 80% FT.

We finally get a good player and people are already talking about trading him. NONSENSE! We stink again this year which means attracting free agents will be next to impossible. Colangelo stole Turkish Thunder from the Thunder (ironically) in what may turn out to be the best trade the Sixers have made in years (especially if that first rounder conveys).

When I declared him the Sixers MVP after the first quarter of the season I speculated that we could possibly resign him for 3 years for 36 million dollars. In the 2 games since he has averaged 23 ppg, 12.5 rpg, and 4 assists. He also led the Sixers to their fifth victory. His price is going up.

As the absolute floor you have to figure he would get more than Tyler Zeller got (who averages 4.7 points and 3.5 rebounds) which was 24 million over 2 years. I think the salary of Timofey Mozgov (who averages 8.5 points and 4.7 rebounds) is probably more realistic (64 million over 4 years). Ideally we would knock off that 4th year and sweeten the pot a bit. I don't know if 3 years for 51 million would be enough, but it should be a substantial enough offer to get the negotiations started.
