2015 Draft Lottery Notes

1) I still want KATowns, and I would offer OKC's pick and maybe the rights to Miami's pick to get him. Again, I like D'Angelo Russell, but I believe the guards in the 2016 draft are just as good, but none of the bigs in this draft or next compare to Towns, in the abstract, or fit well next to Embiid both as a power forward and an insurance policy at center.

2) Speaking of the OKC pick, I want it this year. They are over the luxury tax threshold if they re-sign Enes Kanter, and the #14 pick only makes their tax troubles worse. As El Tortuga's post discussed, they can pay us to take on Lamb & Novak & Jones' contracts by removing the protection on #14. Or, we could offer OKC the right to swap their 2016 pick (25-30) with Miami's 2016 pick (11-25), in exchange for removing the protection on #14 this year. Plenty of other scenarios. I really don't want to go from the possiblity of getting Miami at #11 and OKC at #14 this year, to actually getting Miami at #20 and OKC at #27. Next year's draft is deep, so it won't be tremendous disappointment. Plus, we should package them all to get Ben Simmons if we can, anyway!

3) D'Angelo Russell at #3 is a fine pick. He'll be a very good NBA player. He's just less certain to be a star in my opinion. I believe he profiles best as a two guard. He compared himself to Manu Ginobili, and I can see that very easily. If we somehow get the #14 pick, I would like a combination of D'Russell and either Jerami Grant or Cameron Payne.

4) Because I have Mudiay and Winslow and Porzingis on the same tier as Russell, (yes, I've finally committed to Kristapps, and have him over Hezonja), I'm all for trading down. Not once, but twice!

Trade down from #3 to #5 with Orlando (picking up Lakers 2017 pick), then down frm #5 to #7 with Denver (picking up the right to swap with Knicks in 2016). It's a seven man draft (Towns, Russell, Okafor, Mudiay, Porzingis, Winslow, Hezonja). I'll take the last man standing.

5) So my fantasy result on draft night would be:

a) get OKC's #14 pick for just taking on bad K's,

b) trade down twice from #3 to #5 to #7, picking up Lakers 2017 and Knicks 2016,

c) select Justise Winslow at #7 and Jerami Grant at #14

d) 2016: Knicks (Ben Simmons), LA (Jamal Murray), and Heat pick (Dwayne Bacon), & (Dario Saric),

e) 2017: Lakers pick and Sixers pick.

f) oh yeah, and package #34 & #37 to GS for #30 (Rakeem Christmas)
