Jerian Grant, Kelly Oubre Jr, Stanley Johnson, Karl Anthony Towns & Joel Embiid...

I like MCW, apparently more than most. Plenty of other young point guards have been on terrible teams and not put up anywhere close to the numbers Carter-Williams has. Where are these point guards on the bench of other teams, in the DLeague, overseas, that are better than him? If we had Dennis Schroeder, I could just imagine how we'd be screaming at him, as if to be good one must be perfect right away. The idea that a #13 pick is a failure if he doesn't come close to being Jason Kidd is ludicrous.

Igoudala suffered the same unreasonable expectations from Sixers fans: For all your skill, you suck because you are not who I want you to be. MCW has NBA level ball handling ability at 6'6. He mixes it up for rebounds and steals. He used to get to the rim and started finishing better there, but hasn't done so lately because he's trying to be more of a distributor. He'll find the right mix eventually, I believe.

His court vision and passing touch are mediocre for a point guard. His shooting is still majorly suspect, though he has looked good hitting important open threes during crunch time. But how will we feel in three years time if we trade MCW for a mid to late first round pick and his shooting develops? An MCW who shoots well is an elite NBA player. I'm willing to wait.

I think GM's know all of this about MCW and value him more highly than us Negadelphians. (Whenever I want to feel good about Philly teams, I talk to very knowledgeable people who don't live here.) Many of us would take a late first for Carter-Williams, whereas varying internet rumors have the Sixers front office seeking either multiple first round picks or a top 10 for MC'Dub. And so that's where I'm at: I like the Sixers with MCW as my point guard, but would trade him for a top ten in this years draft if it nets us either Stanley Johnson, Mario Hezonja or Kelly Oubre.

The potential trade partner I'm looking at is the Sacramento Kings. They had Isaiah Thomas, but didn't resign him because of his over-dribbling. They signed Darren Collison as a stop gap, and that's all that he has been. Rumors had the Nets almost dumping Deron Williams's massive contract on them. Rather than a brittle D.Williams at $20M a season, I'm sure the KIngs would prefer two years of MCW on a rookie contract, with the right to resign him if he indeed develops. Right now the Kings would likely have around the #7 or #8 pick, and there's a strong likelihood that one of Johnson, Hezonja or Oubre will be there. Probably Oubre.

Give me Karl Anthony Towns with our pick, trade MCW for Kelly Oubre, and with the Miami Heat pick select Jerian Grant, point guard from Notre Dame. As much as I like MCW, I can see JGrant the 2nd as a naturally better facilitator, shooter and leader. His assist & steals to turnovers is marvelous. Perfect size at 6'5, 200. Two way player. Famed DeMatha program in Hyattsville, Md, then apprenticeship under a real basketball coach in Mike Brey in South Bend. And if Jerami's shooting has drastically impoved, thanks to practice and the Grant family genomes, think of what Jerian might do. There are other more exciting combo guards. There are also some pure point guards that don't come with his size or athleticism. In my view, he's the only point guard in the NCAA ready to step into our system and perform from day one. For that, I reach and grab him with the Miami pick.

The only knock on Jerian Grant is his age, 22. I personally don't care about that, especially when it comes to point guards. Big men are projectable at age 18. About 90% of All Star NBA big men were known commodities at age 18 or earlier. Ben Wallace is probably the greatest exception. Point guards on the other hand are hard to evaluate at 18 or 19, unless they are otherwordly. It's okay that Grant is 22 because we're not asking him to develop someday. He's ready to step in right away.

The Smitty Plan: 1) gain third 1st round pick by trading AK47, JRich, LMAM and 2nds at the deadline (Golden State?), 2) Take Towns with Sixers #1, 3) Trade Miami pick, 2016 1st pick, and and all the other 2nds in the world to get back in the top 7 for Stanley Johnson, 4) Trade MCW to Sacramento for Kelly Oubre Jr, 5) Take Jerian Grant with late first round pick. Skip to my lou all the way down the New Jersey Turnpike with Joel Embiid, Karl Towns, SDot Johnson, Kelly Oubre Jr, and Jerian Grant!
