The summer league season has kicked of this past weekend and my expectation for the Sixers' players is that they stay healthy and show improvement through the course of the season.
At the very least Nerlens need to stay completely healthy. The Sixers can't afford another wasted season for him. I would like see him gain the confidence at the end of summer season that his knee can be relied upon on and he can play his usual self. His debut was great. Show his improved touch at the free throw line. I can only hope that he can sustain the shooting form that he and Coach Brown worked so hard at last year.
For KJ Daniels I am hoping he can gain his confidence through his play on the defensive side that he feels like he belongs in the NBA. Then this summer season he can work really hard on improving his offense with the coaches. Right now I seem him starting for the Sixers as the undersized SF or possibly SG this season. But he needs to improve this off season on his shooting form in order to be the answer as the SG. I believe that his impact to the team will be as the 6th man off the bench to provide the defense to shut down the other team's star player.
Jerami Grant needs a lot of work this year to be a bench player for the Sixers down the road. It is kind of disconcerting that his offensive game is so unpolished. This is surprising since he is a son and nephew of former NBA players. You would think that he at least could shoot the ball but right now he is a high energy player who gets fast break points. He needs to improve his strength in order to compete in the NBA league. He will find it tough to play the post like he did in college. His debut performance in Orlando left a lot to be desired.
It's a shame about Pierre Jackson's injury. Was hoping he could bring his scoring touch to the team.
Jordan McRae is a mystery for now since I don't see him listed on the Orlando summer league roster. I am hoping that he can provide the spot up shooting from the corner when MCW is driving in the lane. The Sixers need a shooter to open up the post for Nerlens and company.
The rest of the team are question marks as far as them being on this team two years from now when the Sixers should be contending for the playoffs.
I haven't been this excited about the Sixers in a long time. I don't even mind that they will only get 20 wins this season again. I will be keeping an eye on the team to see that the players are progressing along to be contenders.
