While the NBA world waits on LeBron and Carmelo to make their decisions over the next few days, and all the other pieces to fall in place thereafter, the Sixers are patiently waiting for guys like Lin ands Jack to shake loose as part of those deals, along with a pick or two. Meanwhile, we all get to watch the young guns play in Orlando. Yesterday we had the good (Noel), the sad (Jackson), and plenty of ugly basketball played across all five games. Despite his poor shooting with too many attempts off the dribble, Hollis showed some good work on the boards, and McDaniels did exactly as expected - he made a few shots, played solid D, and led all Sixeds in plus/ minus. Roberts from St. Joes also showed some real intensity, a live body, and a high basketball IQ for an undrafted kid trying to make the team.
The Sixers lost one man yesterday who was destined for a lineup spot in the backcourt in Jackson, so there is an opportunity there for the taking. We also got a good look at Nerlens, and while one day is a small sample, it sure looked like he might get some significant time at the PF spot this season. With a Lance Stephenson move still unlikely for the Sixers, a backcourt with MCW, Wroten, Lin and Jack would still represent a significant upgrade over last season with a lot of flexibility, and better outside shooting in the mix. KJ and Thomspon look to get most of the time at SF, with Thad, Noel and Sims at the 4/5 spots. So expect the Sixers to fill in one more spot in the front court via fre agency.
With the 10th looming next week, things will quickly become more clear. Meanwhile, we get to watch a few more summer league games while waiting for whatever moves the Sixers are going to make. Soon enough, we will have a better handle on the roster for the upcoming season.
