Kids are gonna Play

With all that we have seen and not seen this summer and throughout the year plus of the Hinkie/Brown regime, it is time to accept the idea that the Sixers are going to live and die with the long term rebuild plan. Just this week we saw the signing of Pierre Jackson, who may well miss out the entire season, the full term of his initial contract with the team. For the long term potential and goodwill, the Sixers have locked up another roster spot, and with Joel Embiid, their two spots on the IR are gone.

Barring involvement in a trade later this summer, the Sixers will be going with what they have in the coming season. And that means just a couple of seasoned veterans on the roster, Thad Young and Jason Richardson, the latter of whom we have not seen on the floor for eighteen months. A couple of younger returnees in Hollis Thompson, Tony Wroten, and Henry Sims. Borderline guys like Jarvis Varnado, Elliot Williams, Arnett Moultrie, Brandon Davies and Caspar Ware, some of whom may not even make the final roster. And our four true rookies, Nerlens Noel, KJ McDaniels, Jordan McRae, and Jerami Grant. Already we are one over the limit. Regardless, these kids are gonna play.

Given the commitment to player development, they are probably gonna play a lot. It is entirely possible that one of McOffense and McDefense will join Noel in the starting lineup. Whatever happens, they are going to get a lot of minutes, and we are going to have a very different look on the floor this season. In my book, that's a good thing, and something to look forward to.
