Summer league roundup roundhouse

Now that the summer league roundups are all being published, I can say just how stupid and lazy the analysis is. And, since links to Grantland are becoming commonplace around here, somebody needs to provide some evaluation of this mess...

Grantland is a Celtics fan-site for NBA purposes so I know that they have to bang on Philly whenever they can, but PhilaTankia? Last year, the Celtics traded their 3 best players and sat their 4th best with an "injury" for all but 30 games. During those 30 games, Rondo lazily took more than two times more 3’s than he ever has in any other single season. Even with the extra shots, he still turned it over as much as he ever has. And, Jeff Green.

The Sixers didn’t really try to turn over the roster until the trade deadline and had MCW playing hard enough to win the ROY. Recently, Boston signed Evan Turner. Good luck with that Boston. I hope you suck for forever.

Love the video in that article of Doug McDermott and Nerlens. In the video, Doug appears to be dropping mad points and defending the rim like a Mark Eaton. Whoa, double checking the stat-sheet, that’s both of his blocks from the game (no steals, as usual) and 2 of his 3 made baskets. I didn’t see any of his 7 missed shots or 4 TOs though. I’m just glad that Zach Lowe dug deep to get to the heart of the story there. He does have some kind words for Nerlens, which I like. He has even kinder words for McDermott saying that he’ll be a better version of Kyle Korver.

He even says that it’s lazy to compare 2 players that are ethnically similar. So, don’t do it then. Hey, let’s try their stats…

My point is…they are just different types of players (those stats are per 40, btw). Korver shot a higher percentage of his shots from 3 and got to the line way less. And, he was a pretty decent assist man. McDermott did a lot of work closer to the basket and generally appears to have been called on to score score score and not get his teammates involved. Even putting aside if McDermott is going to be good or not in the pros, he’s not likely to end up having anything to do with the type of player that Korver is. Or, if he does, it’s a dramatic shift away from what he did in school.

The best thing in that post is the video of Noah, apparently, getting mad at Snell for a failed or un-attempted chest bump. Noah knows that the guys on the bench are there primarily to deliver a successful chest bump when he’s running off the court. Know your role Snell. Learn it. Study it. If that happens again, we’re going to have to give you playing time so that you’re on the court instead of being asked to provide a chest bump to a guy who’s incredibly excited about something that he just did.
