McDefense wins championships

Doug McBuckets ran into KJ "Nightmare" McDefense on the Vegas summer league circuit last night. You may have heard that Doug has been ripping up the summer league (averaged 20.3 points and 3.7 assists in his first three games). As it turns out, he is a good shooter; so, against lazy summer league defenses that are not nearly as worried about closing out on jump shots as getting an extra step on the break to pad some scoring stats, Doug has ruled. Obviously, this has led to a series of NBA and draft experts saying something like:

"I told you that he was going to be a superstar…er…ok, he’ll be ok. He’ll have a role in this league. I think, based on him doing what he did in college, but in the summer league."

Just as obvious is the claim that he should have been taken 10th instead of Elfrid Payt… I mean, Saric.

Then, McDermott comes up against KJ last night and:

3-10 (1-6 from 3) for 11 points and 4 TO’s.

That's about right. And, that’s the NBA. While I believe that KJ has a specific skillset defensively that is going to make him an exceptional defender for the Sixers, many or most teams have a player that is athletic and defensive minded enough to put similar pressure on McDermott. Turning this more positively towards KJ…stack last night with KJ making the number one pick and a guy that Cleveland is scared to put in a trade to get Kevin Love look like a guy that should be struggling for playing time and i’m good on KJ. He freal.
