After watching all of the summer league games multiple times I find myself marveling at this year's second round selections. Hinkie seems to have an eye for overlooked talent. Brett Brown has some really good new players to develop into solid NBA players.
Let me start with my favorite player so far KJ McDaniels. His ability to defend I already knew would be his calling card in the NBA but his ability to knock down the open three point shot has changed how I look at his potential down the road. He not only has the size and athleticism to be a good NBA wing defender but if he can consistently knock down the open three he might turn into the starting two guard or small forward of this team's future. It is a shame he turned his ankle because it looks to have slowed him down on the court. If I were to look for comparisons to his game I would say a mix of Andre Iguodala and Kawhi Leonard would be his top end potential. If he does not develop still see him sticking on a team for a bunch of years as a defensive stopper like Tony Allen.
Secondly is the 39th pick Jerami Grant son to Harvey Grant and nephew to Horace Grant. He started out really slow in his first two games of summer league. He looked timid and not ready for the speed of the game. Then enters his last three showings where he looked to be more comfortable in doing a multitude of things. His shot is not great but its not broken, his length is fantastic, his effort is definitely up to the task, and he seems like he is enjoying himself which turned into 3 solid showings. He is not ready to jump right into a starting role but he sure has the ability to be a energy guy off the bench. His top end potential reminds me of someone else that is on the team in Thaddeus Young but Jerami has more leaping ability then Thad.
Lastly is Jordan McRae who in two games looks like a stud. His aggressive attack of the basket has shown me he definitely has the ability to draw fouls on opposing players that guard him. His shot is good not great but with tons of work he could be a lights out shooter. I see him taking the starting shooting guard spot from Jason Richardson after the first few weeks of the season. I know two games and I already have him penciled in as a starter. But he looks better then half the scrubs they through out there last year. He is the diamond in the rough this year. He's this years Hollis Thompson.
Overall I believe Hinkie has shown the ability to find the diamonds in the rough other teams simply passed on for unknown reasons. But looking at these three throughout summer league the Sixers will definitely be stout on the defensive end and might surprise a few of us with how many games they win.

Your thoughts are more then welcome. Overall I give Hinkie and B+ for his second round selections. Still hurting about trading Russ Smith who would have been the perfect change of pace point guard off the bench.
