Before I get shredded, everyone should know by now I'm a huge fan of Hinkie and Sixer management and don't mind tanking this year again to build for the future.
I - along with you - are also a small fraction of the population who are much more intelligent and patient than the larger half.
At the end of the day, the Sixers are a business, and they need to maximize the bottom line, and a big way to do that is to fill the stands or at least act like you're trying to do so by positive PR (I.e, news breaking that we're offering some known name free agents money to play here)
I think Sam Hinkie realizes that the Sixers are going to need to be a little more aggressive as an organization this year in free agency, because honestly, last year they essentially admitted they weren't going to make an effort. And at the very least, out of respect for season ticket holders - many of them older and don't have access to social media and long have dumped money into the organization - will need to make some effort.
As an intelligent basketball fan I fully support what they're doing 100%. But a very small part of me, and hopefully everyone, realizes that the Sixers still are a product that people pay to go to (little kids, sometimes for the first time this upcoming year, elderly season ticket holders, life long fans), and Hinkie + management should make at least a little effort to bring in a new face who can start and make a (marginal, very marginal) difference.
