How many of us on draft night were banging the drum for Vonleh to last one more pick? I know I was in stunned disbelief that he was dropping and that he might just be their ready for the 76ers to take at 10. All of us watching at Shake Shack's draft party were discussing future tee shirts with "Trip Towers" emblazoned across the chest.
Who wasn't disappointed when Vonleh was selected with the 9th pick?
And then Hinkie turned the 10th pick into Saric plus a 2015 2nd while recapturing our 2017 first back from Orlando. Wow. Just wow.
The 9th -12th picks turned out to be more interesting - and more valuable - then I was expecting. Vonleh dropped to nine. Payton was so coveted by Orlando, that we got 12, a future 1st in 2017 and a future 2nd in 2015. Doug McDermott at 11 fetched two mid firsts this year and a future 2nd next year. And Saric was there at 12!
What I've been wondering is how many, knowing the haul Hinkie would get by drafting Elfrid Payton at 10, would have taken Vonleh instead had he dropped? Or maybe you think the McDermott deal is better. Question isn't who is the better fit but what strengthens the 76ers the most in terms of assets?
