As we dissect and discuss every Hinkie decision, I hope everyone, especially the gentlemen running the site, take a moment to appreciate the unprecedented impact we are having as informed, passionate fans.
One oft-repeated theme among Thursday night's comments was "I'm ok with what Hinkie is doing but the press/fanbase is going to tear him apart..." On Friday, the WIP jocks seemed genuinely surprised that the fan reaction was mostly quite level-headed. Eskin's badgering at the presser came off as the shrill voice of a Professional Agitator, not the voice of a frustrated fanbase unleashed.
Bloggers have changed the game, especially in Philly where the intelligence and passion of the fanbase has yielded, as far as I can tell, the best, most prolific sports blogs in the country (Thanks, guys!) The reason Hinkie can get away with this long game is, well, it's because the owners allow him to. But the fans here were agitating for a guy like Hinkie long before Josh Harris came to town, and now that he is here doing it slowly and correctly, he is getting more support than he anticipated from the blog-educated fanbase.
This type of rebuild would not have been possible in the days before Liberty Ballers.
