One reaction to the draft last night that I absolutely loathe is that 2014-2015 will be as laborious as this past year. I can't express how idiotic that point of view is.
IT'S A PROCESS! It's a process. It's a goddamn motherfucking process. Just because you don't win 54 games and get to the eastern conference finals doesn't mean next year won't be enjoyable! Next year we'll have MCW's second year, the debut of Nerlens Noel, KJ McDaniels, and hopefully some of Embiid. How the fuck is that not enjoyable? The Thunder won 20 games with Durant. 20. He shot 43 percent from the field, 29 percent from 3, and only averaged 4.5 boards. There were idiots back then too, saying that he may not be the guy they thought he could be. But, ya know, you're right detractors, his team dominated his second year after he progressed. NOPE. They won 3 more games. Just three. With Durant and Jeff Green in their second years and Russell Westbrook in his rookie year.
Then, the next year they won 50 games, but you get my point. Let the talent marinate. I don't think our rise will be as meteoric, but that's only because Saric is stashed and Embiid/Noel may get nicked up again. And we don't have Durant. The teams' infrastructure compares favorably, and that's all that matters.
So if you can't enjoy a year or two of growing pains when you know your team is very talented and has the potential to be perennial contenders, you're just an asshole. An impatient, childish, imbecilic asshole.
Let's not forget the Spurs LUCKED their way into this dominant of a dynasty by having David Robinson injured, allowing them to be bad enough to get Duncan. Things happen. The road to winning championships is long, unless you're both incredibly lucky and smart. Being able to get Embiid due to the perception that he's injury prone was lucky. Recognizing how essential replaceablility is when building a team and trading Jrue Holiday for Nerlens and a pick (Saric) then drafting MCW made our team bad enough to be able to draft Embiid...that makes us smart. Logically, in a couple years we'll win championships. Enjoying the now will make the future that much sweeter. The public's perceived watchability of the Sixers starts next year, or summer league if you're so inclined.
We also have Henry Sims.
