You have to give this draft grade an Incomplete. If Embiid is Hakeem, it is an A. If he's not, well…there was no way around drafting him. He could be a transcendent player and the reward far outweighs the risk at #3.
I was hoping for more wheeling and dealing, holding my breath throughout the middle of the first round for us to trade Thad, absorb cap, or bunch second rounders together to move up and grab Harris or James Young. I'm happy with the McDaniels and Grant picks, as it provides evidence towards our management's best player available approach. We still have a long way to go, and I already find myself hoping we can do things do get extra picks for the 1st round of the 2015 draft.
--Also loved the added picks---2015 2nd & 2017 protected 1st--- in the Payton-Saric swap--
BUT AT THIS VERY MOMENT, I give what the Sixers did tonight a B. I'm happy with the prospects and best player available approach. It's a necessary gamble on Embiid. The only reason it doesn't get an A is because I think we should have moved up to the 17-19 range and got Young or Harris.
