LeBron. Carmelo. Love. Three 1st and 2nd team all-NBA players out in the marketplace. Embiid is hurt. Utah is making a play for the #1 pick. Kings are considering a trade for Josh Smith, which may take Monroe off the market.
Now is the time to stay calm and stick with the plan. Exploit other teams that want to clear space and go for a quick fix. Make deals that continue to increase your assets, and get even more 1st round picks for this year or next. Make solid, safe picks with your high draft choices. Seize the opportunity and add 2 or 3 or even 4 more young players to the core to go with MCW and Noel. We should be able to get at least two starters and one or two rotation players out of our 7 picks plus moves. If you think MCW is not the long term answer at the point move him, but get value back and get his replacement on board right now. Same with Thad, move him, but only for value - when we are back in the hunt, having a high quality veteran sixth man will no longer be a luxury. Pick up Randle, Smart, Exum, Gordon, McDermott, Stauskus, guys who are going to be players in the NBA no matter what, and have a chance to be future all stars if they develop. Certainly take a Wiggins if it is not too costly, and if you can recoup another first rounder elsewhere, if the cost is 3 and 10. But make sure you end up with 3 or four more pieces to the puzzle in the draft this year. Then let the dust settle on Friday, see what you have, and enter free agency next week with eyes wide open and money to spend. Add one more player, and try to take your young core up to the 7th or 8th seed in the east next year. Then the big name free agents will be in play the following summer.
