I was checking the box scores of some of the playoff games recently, and I was surprised when I realized how many former Sixers were on playoff teams. I went in search, and found this list of players:
Dorrell Wright- Blazers
Willie Green & Matt Barnes- Clips
Andre Iguodala & Marreese Speights- Warriors
Samuel Dalembert- Mavs
Lavoy Allen & Evan Turner- Pacers
Lou Will, Elton Brand, Kyle Korver, Shelvin Mack- Hawks
John Salmons- Raptors
Andre Miller- Wiz
Nazr Mohammed & Lou Amundson- Bulls
That is 15 players who played for the Sixers at some point in their careers, that are in the playoffs right now. My logical next progression was to see what kind of lineup I could come up with, and see how that lineup might stack up.
PG: Andre Miller
SG: Kyle Korver
SF: Andre Iguodala
PF: Elton Brand
C: Samuel Dalembert
Well, that looks familiar. In fact, seven of the above players were on the 07-08 team that went 40-42. Switch out Brand for the immortal Reggie Evans, and start Green instead of Korver, and you have the 5 players who started the most games for the Sixers that year. Lou Will was the first off the bench for that year, and would be likely the first guard off the bench for this squad. ET would be the first Wing, and Speights likely the first big. Green, Wright, Salmons, Mohammed, Amundson, and Mack would all be buried at the end of the rotation.
Honestly, this team would likely lose the majority of their games, and I’d much rather have the Sixers current core than this group, but hey, if any of these players win the championship, at least we can claim victory by proxy!
