Reports: Michael Carter-Williams Wins 2013-14 NBA Rookie of the Year Award

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

MCW winning this award has been long-expected.

I guess we were just delaying the inevitable. The Donald Sterling situation justly delayed the NBA's announcement of the end-of-season awards, including one that would appear to be Sixers-related. But for those who anxiously want to see a reward for the losing before the draft lottery /fingers crossed/, you may just have your wish.

Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com first reported yesterday that Michael Carter-Williams has won the 2013 Rookie of the Year award:

The Syracuse product won Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month four out of the six months it was awarded this season, a strong sign that the Rookie of the Year Award was going to be his. Carter-Williams was the 11th overall pick in last year's NBA Draft.

He is the first Sixers' player to be considered for the award since Allen Iverson was named Rookie of the Year in 1996.

Michael Kaskey-Blomain of Philly.com then tweeted out the same thing. Liberty Ballers sources have not been able to confirm the news as of now, however expected the results may be.

Carter-Williams led rookies in scoring, rebounding, assists, and steals on a per game basis, assisted by a greater role than any other rookie player had, on a team playing at the fastest pace in the league. He also had the most individually notable performances of any rookie, highlighted by his 22-7-12-9 opener against the Miami Heat.

We'll let you know when the award is officially announced.
