On a recent Fan Post about Draft Rumors, one rumored trade had Cleveland sending the #1 pick to Utah for their #5, veteran players and other picks. Utah would get their golden boy Parker and Cleveland would get no worst than a top PF at #5 along with quality veteran players. It makes sense if Cleveland wants to win now and appease Mr. Irving.
But what if their master plan goes deeper? Suppose that this deal is agreed upon in secret but Cleveland makes Embiid's camp think he's their guy up until draft night. After Silver announces the shocking trade, Cleveland simultaneously leaks that they had concerns over Embiid's back - when in reality they don't. That shockwave scares Milwaukee into taking Wiggins, the Sixers into drafting Exum (or my choice Vonleh), and Orlando into taking consolation prize PG Marcus Smart. Guess who's picking at #5 ready to take the guy they wanted all along?
Maybe Embiid is in on the scheme from the beginning? But it doesn't really matter. If Cleveland could pull something like this off, that would be impressive. I'm sure Hinkie's thought about this and a zillion other scenarios so I won't lose sleep over it. Just thought I'd share another "plausible but unlikely" scenario to keep us riled up until June 26th.
