Sixers sign James Nunnally to 10-day contract, Waive Eric Maynor

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Maynor played in 10 games with the Sixers following the Feb. 20 trade deadline. Nunnally has played with the Bakersfield Jam and Texas Legends this season.

On the day the VCU Rams lost to St. Joe's in the Atlantic 10 title game, the Philadelphia 76ers have waived former VCU great Eric Maynor to make room on the roster and sign James Nunnally out of the NBA D-League to a 10-day contract on Sunday, per Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Maynor averaged 3.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 13.0 minutes per game with the Sixers since they acquired him for a top-55 protected second-round pick at the trade deadline. One could argue he wasn't given much of a chance to prove his worth, meanwhile others could easily argue he never truly deserved the burn. It is absolutely time to speculate whether Maynor's career in the NBA is in doubt and he'll have to look at overseas options.

Nunnally averaged 18.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 25 games with the Bakersfield Jam this season and worked out for the Sixers early last week along with several other D-League perimeter players.

The signing of Nunnally was first reported last night.

Seeing that tweet led many at Liberty Ballers to speculate Sam Hinkie would choose to part ways with athletic guard Elliot Williams, but we have to give some props to Sean O'Connor.

With the Sixers going full-steam-ahead on a 20-game losing streak, at least the front office is trying to keep us interested.

Hey! Who's that guy?

Oh, that's James Nunnally.

Who?

He's a small forward from the D-League.

Got it.
