If you have not seen DraftExpress' recent mock draft, check it out here: http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-mock-draft/2014/
Now, before I start, let it be known that DraftExpress does not take into account for teams and their needs. But what I saw shocked me.
The Sixers have the 2nd overall pick in this mock draft and select Andrew Wiggins. No surprise there, and I'd be more than ecstatic if that happened. Here's where the shocking and interesting part comes in.
The New Orleans Pelicans pick is currently 11th, and many Sixers fans have their eyes set on Zach LaVine, Rodney Hood, Doug McDermott and in a dream scenario: Noah Vonleh. But DraftExpress had the Sixers selecting... Jusuf Nurkic from Cedevita in the Croatian League.
First off, Who?! Jusuf Nurkic is a 6'11'' 280lb Center. He is 19 years old and won't turn 20 until August. He has a wingspan of 7'2'' and a standing reach of 9' 1.5''. That's all I got from his draft profile, but here is an excerpt from nbadraft.net:
"A solid free throw shooter, a good weapon since with his frame he’s able to draw contact quite effectively ... He plays with energy and intensity below the boards, he’s not scared of contact …Good rebounder. Defensively he has a great potential with his remarkable lateral speed and quick hands ... He has a remarkable feel for the game and basketball instincts, with several of the offensive possessions of his team usually passing through his hands."
They have him being compared to Nikola Pekovic or Zaza Pachulia.
I know teams are not put into thought in DraftExpress' mock draft but why would this guy be at 11? Considering the fact that Tyler Ennis, Rodney Hood, Nik Stauskas, Montrezl Harrell, Gary Harris and many others are taken after him. What makes this guy so valuable at 11th?
If anyone has some insight on this unknown international prospect, please, fill me and the many other Sixers fan who don't have the slightest clue who this guy is.
