Random Musings

Whatsup guys. It's finals week so I'm trying to do everything but study for them.

I'm just going to throw out some random thoughts I have been having lately about our Sixers.

  • Jahlil Okafor is a stud and a half. Very similar to Duncan. Fantastic composure for any age, but especially for a Freshman. If we get the first pick, it MUST be him. I understand we have a lot of bigs but Okafor is special. You don't pass up on special.
  • Covington showing up and being able to drain threes is great, but lets keep losing please I want Okafor.
  • Our defensive potential is amazing. This gets me extremely excited.
  • This is going to sound a bit ridiculous at first but hear me out...would a starting lineup of MCW, KJ, Noel, Okafor, and Embiid be out of the question next year? I really don't think so. Look at Memphis who is a really special team. They have an above average PG in Conley who can play great defense and make plays on offense. He isn't that great of a shooter, though. they start Tony Allen at the 2 spot who is just a defensive specialist. They have Tayshaun Prince at the 3. He is a long, lanky presence that is long, quick enough to guard any kind of Small Forward. And then they have the twin towers in Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph down low. Both of them can shoot and also score from the post.
  • In comparison, we would have a long PG who plays great defense and also struggles shooting but is proving he can hit an open three. We have KJ who I think is a mixture between a younger Kawhi Leonard and Tony Allen at this point in time. We would have Noel who doesn't have the shot that Tayshaun does, but he is an impeccable defender. I think Noel is versatile enough to cover and play phenomenal defense on a lot of Small Forwards. Obviously Noel's offensive skills would have to grow more. I don't think he will ever be a good shooter. However, I think he has great driving potential and can post up on small forwards that will most likely be guarding him. Okafor and Embiid would be a very scary combination down low.
  • We would also have Saric, Thompson, Wroten, Covington, Aldemir and Sims coming off the bench. When Saric comes over in two years he will be a very dynamic power forward who can help us find a lot of mismatches...especially on the pick and roll. Thompson is a very solid player if he is playing limited minutes and is the third or fourth guy off of the bench. That's the kind of player he should be. Wroten is still growing and is very long. I like his energy. Him sparing MCW for years to come isn't a terrible thing. However, when we reach legitimacy which will probably be next year, I see us getting a veteran point guard to help accelerate our growing process. Covington is already proving that he is a great change of pace guy. He's a stretch four or a big three who can drain open threes. I like what he brings off of the bench. Not to mention, our incredible length should help cover for any shortcomings he has on the defensive end. Aldemir is an interesting player. He reminds me a lot of Tiago Splitter which obviously excites me. I like his toughness and think he is a good big to come off our bench. Sims is okay but if he is the 5th or 6th guy coming off of our bench, that is a pretty deep bench. Oh, and if Jordan McRae comes back. That's some more depth for our wing position and adds a shooter to our squad.
  • Back to my point about potentially having Noel play solid time at the 3 with Okafor and Embiid on the floor... this obviously isn't optimal. However, if our roster was exactly the same as this year, plus Okafor, I would have to admit that this is our best lineup and is one that actually makes us competitive. With that said, I would like to see us be major players for a good shooting wing. Obviously guys like Kevin Durant are optimal. However, I could see us making a play for Kyle Singler or Jeff Green. Singler could be a guy that would take a short deal to prove that he can really ball out when he's on a good team. Green on the other hand, is probably going to be looking to get paid right away. I would actually be fine with signing him for decent money.

What do you think?
