Philadelphia 76ers Defeat New York Knicks 110-106: Reaction Thread

Jim O'Connor-USA TODAY Sports

Evan Turner's career-high 34 points helped spur the Philadelphia 76ers to a 110-106 victory over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night.

Winter Storm Janus could have done us all a favor and dumped enough snow in Gotham to postpone tonight's Philadelphia 76ers - New York Knicks tilt. But alas, there was only enough snow to cause a nuisance, and the game went on as scheduled.

The Sixers (14-28) grabbed victory from the jaws of defeat and left Madison Square Garden with a 110-106 victory. Below are a few quick thoughts from the contest:

  • He had a rough patch early in the fourth quarter, but Evan Turner finished with a career-high 34 points (on 22 shots) and 11 rebounds. It was his first 30-point game since he scored 31 against Cleveland on November 9.
  • Michael Carter-Williams couldn't hit the broad side of a barn for most of the night (5-for-18 from the field), but he knocked down a clutch three late in the fourth quarter and ended the game with 19 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists.
  • Thaddeus Young had one of those games where you didn't notice him all that much on the offensive end, but somehow wound up with a solid 19/7/4/4 line.
  • James Anderson was on fire Wednesday, scoring 18 points on 8-for-11 shooting.
  • The Knicks have a fair amount of talent, but their lack of effort at times is appalling. Whether failing to switch properly on defense, or giving the Sixers multiple opportunities at second-chance points (17 offensive rebounds), it almost seems as if the team isn't even paying attention to what Mike Woodson and the rest of the coaching staff are saying.
  • Sixers' beat writer (and Liberty Ballers' enthusiast) Tom Moore ate two bags of popcorn before the first half was over...

  • And apparently, being given a personalized jersey by your hometown team means nothing anymore...

Full recap to come. Nothing for nothing, this game was far more entertaining than the NFL Pro Bowl draft. So there's that.
