Hinkie is a man of Advanced Analytics but we can see even with our own eyes his genius from the simplest of stats. Going into this season we wanted two things: Losses and increased trade value for Evan, Thad, and Hawes. When some wins started to come we were worried but as things have settled we have rejoined #TeamChill. But even if the few extra wins upset you, let me drop these stats.
The team averages 101.2 ppg, right around the middle of the pack. For a team trying to tank you might worry but the losses are coming. If you look at it further you see Hinkie is doing his job far better than we expected. Turner is averaging 18.3 ppg, Thad has 17.3 ppg, and Hawes 14.1 ppg. So on a given night your three veterans you want to trade are averaging 49.7 ppg which is almost half of the teams scoring. These aren't stars or a Big 3 that will carry you either.
Now throw in the rookie phenom MCW who averages 17.5 ppg which added to the veterans is 67.2 ppg roughly 2/3 of the offense. I'm sure the Sixers are not the only team who can get this much offense from 4 players but things will be come a little more clear after Tony Wroten is thrown in the mix. He averages 13 ppg, bringing the total to 80.2 ppg and close to 80% of the offense.
What does that mean? The Sixers are getting 80% of their offense from their only five real contributing players. There can be an arguement for James Anderson who is the next closest with almost 10 ppg but after that no one comes close offensively and considering our defense I will not give much credit for that to anyone.
Here's it short and sweet: The vets we want to trade are killing it when it comes to offense and our rookie PG and the diamond and the rough 6th man are looking just as good. Hinkie still managed to find players after that so the team could lose but increase trade value/develop our young future. Now some of this comes along with the high usage of these players but that's exactly what we expected. Imagine if Hinkie puts a whole team of competent players on the court instead of five. If that doesn't make you giddy then I guess someone broke your heart long ago and you just don't know if you will ever feel again.
