SB Nation 2014 NBA Mock Draft Liberty Ballers Email Thread

Rob Foldy-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome back to the latest and biggest installment of "No One Reads This".

By now you know I did my best to emulate the almighty Sam Hinkie in the SB Nation NBA Mock Draft. I managed to make three trades -- two of which were 3-teamers -- make a total of four first round picks, acquire an unprotected first rounder next year, and trade everyone ever associated with the name Doug Collins.

Now, just like last year, you can find out what could have been, as well as feel the tremendous frustration on the part of the other fourteen Liberty Ballers writers who have each blocked and reported me for spam during the few angst-filled days of the SBNBA Mock Draft. Over 250 emails later, here you are. Beware of language and a third act twist.

Enjoy, and I'm sorry.

MICHAEL LEVIN

It's starting. Sorry in advance.

My goals are to get a 3rd first rounder this year, move Thad, and a first for next year. Kendall Marshall will be involved in some way.

Any other requests? Excluding of course "please not again, you fuck."

JAKE FISCHER

Keep 32 at all costs. So freaking valuable. I'm a big fan of 39 as well, but more willing to part with that one.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Well it's only a one-round mock, so if I can move up a few spots and actually make the pick, I'm gonna do it.

JAKE FISCHER

Oh, then by all means pull that trigger like a kid losing his virginity.

MICHAEL BAUMANN

Were you here last year, Jake? Levin's only goal is to make as many trades as possible. It's like watching the physical act of fidgeting run a team.

I am calm. I am zen. I am a leaf on the wind.

RICH HOFMANN

Oh no.

MICHAEL LEVIN

I was right about Kendall Marshall and I'm gonna be right about Otto Porter, or whatever undervalued guy I end up championing this year. DJ GM FIDGETZ ON THE ONES AND TWOS.

DAVE RUETER

Oh, christ. Not this again.

SOHIL DOSHI

Draft Sim Bhullar and you'll have the entire nation of India behind you.

JAKE PAVORSKY

Just trade back in for Jordan Adams. That's all I ask.

JAKE FISCHER

If we're trading back in for anyone, it's Cleanthony Early. And isn't Sacramento already India's team?

SOHIL DOSHI

Yeah, basically.

SEAN O'CONNOR

I'm all aboard on any Otto Porter plans.

MICHAEL LEVIN

What we did last year was make a list of all the undervalued assets that I could try to Hinkie out of people. I'm doing some of that now. Make your Wrotenesque suggestions as you wish.

JAKE FISCHER

Jimmer, Miles Plumlee, 2011 Greivis Vasquez, Chris Copeland, Thomas Robinson, Pierre Jackson, Perry Jones, Jeremy Lamb, Kent Bazemore, Ricky Ledo, Lucas Nogueria and Dennis Shroeder.

MATT CAREY

Donetas Motiejunas. Strikes me as a semi-logical candidate for a Royce White-trade where Houston's trying to move some of their guaranteed money to make room for whoever. I'm not particularly sure he's any good, but "tall guy who can shoot" is right in my wheelhouse for bench pieces.

SBNBA Mock Results

SBNBA Mock Results

JAKE PAVORSKY

Good call, Carey. When you inevitably trade for the first pick, Mike, save Sergey Karasev while you're at it.

SEAN O'CONNOR

Save Alexei Shved while you're at it.

JAKE FISCHER

We could grab Shved while helping facilitate moving kevin love...

MICHAEL LEVIN

Embiid went one. Assuming Frank takes Jabari at 2, consensus is Wiggins? I said I'm not unopposed to trading MCW but thus far no bites.

SOHIL DOSHI

Anyone send you any offers for the 3rd spot out of curiosity? If there, go Wiggins at 3.

MATT CAREY

So much Wiggins. I need him now. There is no plan B.

MICHAEL BAUMANN

Agreed. Save Shved.

JAKE PAVORSKY

If Exum isn't on the board if/when the offers for MCW come then I don't think they're worth entertaining.

SEAN O'CONNOR

The deals will probably happen at 7 thru 9. I'd just outright ask Tom or whoever's doing STR's draft what they want for 8.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Should I start smokescreening the SBNBA mock? Embiid-Parker went 1-2. We're on the clock.

What are we trying to get for Thad? If I can move him to the Spurs for Livio Jean-Charles, an unprotected 2015 and the Clippers 2016 2nd rounder, is that worth it?

JAKE FISCHER

I think that's a great haul for Thad. Swipe up Wiggy.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Looking for some feedback, kids. Rank them in terms of which you like best and which you wouldn't do at all. These are all at various stages of discussion:

A. SPURS: Thad for Davis Bertans, SA 2015 1st, LAC 2016 2nd
B. THUNDER: OKC trades: Lamb/PJ/Roberson/Thabeet/21/29 PHI trades: Thad/10/52
C. RAPTORS: Thad for 20/Salmons contract/2017 NYK 2nd
D. HAWKS: Thad/10 for 15/top10-protected 2015 1st E, KINGS (my offer, Sac's probably not receptive to it): Thad/32 for Thompson/Acy/8

There's also vague Suns deals ruminating. I'll let you know when it becomes substantial enough to discuss.

MICHAEL BAUMANN

Not B or D.

MATT CAREY

1. Kings, obviously.
2. Raptors. Salmons contract can be bought out for 1M, so that's nothing, and 20 plus a 2nd is a decent haul for Thad.
3. Spurs. I don't really like it since that pick is going to be in the late 20's and the 2nd will be in the 50's, but at least you're not hurting yourself value wise.
T-4. OKC and the Hawks. Absolutely not.

DAVE RUETER

I googled Davis Bertans, and this is the face looking back at me.

I may be alone in this, but I'd offer Thad/10 for Thompson/8. Guaranteed to get one of those PFs. Liking "D" hinges on knowing the top-9 picks.

MICHAEL BAUMANN

Hey, it's Jesse Plemons.

I'd forgotten how irritating it is that Levin is the only person left in the world who thinks Jeremy Lamb is worth a shit.

KYLE NEUBECK

Do It without question tier: Kings
Yeah, after some thought: Spurs, Raptors
Kill It with Fire: Hawks, Thunder

(I would still explore Thad to OKC but no way am I trading Thad and 10 to them for anything they're willing to give up)

ROY BURTON

Co-sign on Matt's rankings... That Hawks deal is atrocious.

MICHAEL LEVIN

For me, the Hawks deal is Thad for 18 next year. I don't really see much of a difference between 10 and 15 based on the players we like. I would guess that only Saric is available at 10, none of the other PFs.

Rejected the Thunder deal, he countered with 10/32 for Lamb/21/29. Consider that the new Thunder trade (B).

MATT CAREY

Yeah, but if you have Thad for 20 this year sitting in front of you, there's no reason to trade down from 10 to acquire 18 next year.

I'd still rather have my choice of that tier of players rather than move down just so I can trade Thad for a late first.

As for the new Thunder trade, that's still a no. Trading down from 10 to 21 just to get Jeremy Lamb isn't all that interesting to me.

JAKE FISCHER

Kings deal, oh boy. The Raptors I'm a fan of a well. OKC is very intriguing, I wouldn't kill it with fire at all.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Keep in mind this is only a one-round mock. So trading up from 32 to 29 means I get to make another pick AKA Spencer Dinwiddie :)

Haven't heard back from RaptorsHQ on that trade, so I'll let you know. Waiting on Kings, but that's probably a no. Nixed the Hawks deal.

RICH HOFMANN

10 for Kendall Marshall. Get it done, Rube.

SEAN O'CONNOR

I'm also on board for the Raptors deal, if it comes to a vote. Contracts don't matter for just next year, and second round picks are always welcome. I don't like the other trades still on the table.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Nobody likes Jeremy Lamb but me? Think he'd be pretty swell in between MCW and Wiggins. Then draft a 4 at 21 (Payne/Anderson/Stokes) and Dinwiddie at 29. Or take 21 and Thad and package that for a pick in the teens and a pick in 2015 to hedge playoff bets.

SOHIL DOSHI

I basically echo everyone's sentiment. Have the Lakers been entertaining any offers?

JAKE FISCHER

I like Jeremy Lamb. I think he's salvageable, especially under BB.

SOHIL DOSHI

Mike is secretly doing this all for Thabeet.

MATT CAREY

I like Lamb fine as a potential reclamation piece, but the price is way too high in these trades to get him.

SEAN O'CONNOR

For Thad and 10, you have to get more than 21 and possibly salvageable flotsam.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Well it wouldn't be Thad at this point, it would be 10 for 21 and possibly salvageable flotsam. I think he's more capable than you're giving him credit for. He was decidedly not bad last year, is still just 21, and would be a late lottery pick in this draft. Give him more rope to improve and I think you have an NBA starter. I don't think we're talking a Wrotenesque wild card here.

SEAN O'CONNOR

Oh I missed the revised trade. Markedly better. I still say no because I like 2-3 prospects that'll be at 10 at lot that likely wouldn't be at 21. Unless you think Kyle Anderson or someone like that can stick around. Plus you can take Dinwiddie.

JAKE FISCHER

Really don't want to trade back from 10 until we're on the clock. I really think one of Randle or Gordon falls. If they don't, then make a move.

JAKE PAVORSKY

Yeah I really don't think twice about that Raptors deal but if Sacramento says yes, do that.

MICHAEL LEVIN

There's almost no way, in a blogger mock, Randle or Gordon will fall.

The guy running the Suns draft is god awful at offering trades. Doesn't look like anythings gonna happen with them.

Waiting on Toronto, Sacramento, and OKC.

JAKE FISCHER

Is it too late to try and help facilitate a Love trade?  Boston sends No. 6 to Minny, No. 17 to Detroit... Sixers get a future first rounder from BOS... this obviously isn't perfect, but something along those lines.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Thats not actually a bad trade. BUT, something just went down. I traded Thad to Toronto for Salmons, #20, and the NYK 2017 2nd. Everybody happy?

JAKE FISCHER

Content with it as long as you don't take Dinwiddie at 20. That's way to high for him. All about Early or Payne in that range.

MICHAEL BAUMANN

I can live with that.

JAKE PAVORSKY

CAN SOMEBODY JUST PUT JORDAN ADAMS IN A SIXERS UNIFORM? Or I could live with a guy like Warren if he falls a little.

MICHAEL LEVIN

lol the fake sixers have 8 picks in this draft now.

So after I took Wiggins, the Magic surprised and took Randle, then Utah took Exum. Boston's on the clock, but there's been a Kevin Love trade involving the 6th pick, so we're waiting to see the details of that.

I'm trying to move up to the Lakers at #7 to take Gordon or Vonleh.

BRANDON GOWTON

If you don't get Vonleh we can't be friends anymore.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Just offered 10/32/52/Moultrie for 7. Hold your breath and hang tight a sec.

DAVE RUETER

Go big. I like it, Michael. You can't pussyfoot around when you're trying to move in the lottery.

MICHAEL LEVIN

He softly rejected that, but I came at him with a little heat:

"What's it gonna take, then? You guys have less than 5 guys under contract, with no other picks this year, and no picks next year. We have 5 second rounders this year, two seconds next year (Warriors and Pelicans). Let's make something happen for three spots."

JAKE PAVORSKY

Play hard to get. Next phone call he makes? Ignore it.

TANNER STEIDEL

"Oh sorry I wasn't by my phone."

MICHAEL LEVIN

I came at him hard. He brought up Wroten and maybe dumping Nash's salary. I was open to that. He said really the Lakers aren't interested in fielding a super competitive team next year. I said then it was very generous of them to give Kobe $23.5 million to hang out. He said he'd rather stick at #7. I didn't respond.

Hopefully one of Gordon/Vonleh fall. If not, I'm quite happy drafting Saric at #10 and scooping a 2-guard at #20.

JAKE PAVORSKY

Call up Sac Town. See if they can take Thad, cause apparently they love tweeners who can sorta shoot.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Already traded Thad to Toronto JAKE PAY ATTENTION.

ROY BURTON

Jake is two days away from graduation: SENIORITIS.

JAKE FISCHER

Can you offer a similar move to Sac that you originally did to LA? They might love Moultrie's ability to be their 7th PF/C.

MICHAEL LEVIN

That's worth a shot-- I just shot Sacramento an email.Switched it from the 52nd pick to the 54th -- GOD, SO CRAFTY.

OK. The offer on the table with Sacramento is:

10, 39, and J-Rich for 8 and Jason Thompson.

I'm a little queasy taking on an extra year of JT AND moving 39 just to go up 2 spots, but it's probably worth it. I can probably get him to say yes to 47 instead of 39.

JAKE FISCHER

With it being just a one-round draft, don't really care about the second pick. But obviously giving up 47 is better.

JAKE PAVORSKY

You mean we don't have multiple Thad's? Yeah, I'd do it.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Holding on that first Kings deal because they just looped me into a 3-teamer:

Bulls get: #10 pick, #32 pick
Philadelphia gets: #8, #19, Jason Thompson
Sacramento gets: #16, Gibson

We'd have to eat that JT salary but I think that's worth it to move up from 32 to 19 and have four first rounders.

MICHAEL BAUMANN

The hell with JT's salary. Everyone's on a rookie deal. That's a fantastic trade.

ROY BURTON

That's a hell of a deal - do it before everyone else regains their sanity.

JAKE FISCHER

Oh my oh my yes

KYLE NEUBECK

DO IT

TANNER STEIDEL

Jesus. Hell yes.

JAKE PAVORSKY

Now I know why we're not real GMs. Give the FO from Chicago and Sacramento a kiss for me.

MATT CAREY

YUP.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Has to be dependent on the Lakers not taking Vonleh at 7, right? Gordon just went to the Wolves (via Kevin Love trade) at 6. Would we still do this trade if it was Marcus Smart at 8 we'd be picking?

Sacramento proposed it, they're in. Chicago is mulling it. Stay tuned.

SOHIL DOSHI

So we'd end up with 3, 8, 19, and 20 after all is settled?

JAKE PAVORSKY

Even if Vonleh isn't there I'd still probably do it. I don't know what the new infatuation is with Marcus Smart but I don't really love it, so I'd probably take a guy like Saric there.

MICHAEL LEVIN

If that trade were to go through, we'd have 3/8/19/20/39/47/52/54, Jason Thompson, and no Thad (and a 2017 NYK 2nd).

MICHAEL BAUMANN

I think moving up to 19 is worth taking on the salary alone, so even if we wind up taking Saric anyway, I think it's still a win.

Who'd be left at 8--Saric, Smart, McBuckets? I'd take Saric, I like Smart too.

JAKE PAVORSKY

You could build the new practice facility in Camden with all the bricks MCW and Smart would chuck up together. Let's not make that happen.

SOHIL DOSHI

We also are bringing John Salmons back into town in that Thad trade, aren't we?

MICHAEL LEVIN

I agree with Baumann-- worth a 13-spot jump to take on JTs contract. I'll do it and probably pick Saric. We'd buy out Salmons for a million, no problem.

JAKE FISCHER

But, but he's coming home! I used to be a big fan Salmons-Kyle Korver butt-smack handshake.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Bulls rejected it, I countered, offering basically all of our cap space. New proposed deal has us keeping #32 and taking on Boozer:
Bulls get: #10 pick
Philadelphia gets: #8, #19, Thompson, Boozer
Sacramento gets: #16, Gibson

KYLE NEUBECK

Boozer's in his final year right? Fine by me.

MATT CAREY

The Bulls rejecting it is no great shock, they were getting hosed. Gibson/16/19 for 10/32 was awful for them. This is substantially better in their efforts to clear space to go after Melo.

MICHAEL LEVIN

If this trade goes through (it may), we'll have 4 first rounders. I want to move one of them (prob 20) for an unprotected first next year. I tried the Knicks but forgot they moved their 2016 pick too so they can't trade for different years. Who needs a 1st this year and has a 1st next year they can trade and that we would want?

JAKE FISCHER

Without checking.. doesn't Golden State?

MICHAEL LEVIN

Detroit is one! That would be kinda perfect. Dallas too, but less perfect. Yeah Golden State, also less perfect. Indiana, not great. NEW ORLEANS! LOLOLOL. Portland, eh. And Washington, maybe.

So those would be our targets. Think Detroit is probably the most beneficial to us in terms of what that 2015 1st would look like. Thoughts?

MATT CAREY

Pelicans!

JAKE FISCHER

Also: What was the Kevin Love trade that happened? I'm really curious.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Here's the Love trade: Kevin Love is traded to Boston for the 6th pick (Gordon) this year, the Celtics 2015 1st rounder, the Nets 2016 first rounder, Kelly Olynyk, Brandon Bass, and Keith Bogans.

And Chicago looks like they're going to accept the 3-way IF the Knicks turn down his Melo offer. Waiting on Seth Rosenthal to decide.

If Chicago turns it down, it looks like I'll execute the JT/8 for JRich/10/47 trade as a backup.

But I'm already putting out feelers to those teams I listed above (Pelicans, Mavs, Blazers, Wiz, Pistons) in the event that the 3-team trade goes through.

JAKE FISCHER

That's such an unimaginative haul for Love. I'm so disappointed. There's no way Minnesota should trade Love to Boston without grabbing both Olynyk and Sullinger if it's just a boring two-team trade.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Shit, Lakers took Vonleh. We would be getting Smart or Saric at 8 if it went through. Thoughts?

RICH HOFMANN

I think it's a super-crappy haul even if Sullinger is involved as well. It's not the blog's fault, though. I think Minnesota should've acted on the Love disaster this year.

JAKE FISCHER

I completely agree, Rich. He should've been dealt at the deadline.

MICHAEL LEVIN

So do we take Smart here as BPA or do we go Saric? Need to know now. Deal hinges on us. Chicago and Sacramento agreed to it.

MATT CAREY

How sure are we that Saric isn't going to fall to 10? If he is, taking on Thompson and Boozer for #19 seems a little steep. That's basically paying $30 million for one first round pick.

If we want Smart though, I'd probably do it.

JAKE FISCHER

I don't just view Thompson as a contract, I think he could be a Wroten-esque return. I'd take Saric at 8 and do the deal.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Kings just said they'd take J-Rich back. They really want to do this trade. So it'd be:
Bulls get: #10
Philadelphia gets: #8, #19, Thompson, Boozer
Sacramento gets: #16, Gibson, J-Rich

What do you thinkkkkkkkkkkkk?

JAKE PAVORSKY

Thompson isn't necessarily an awful backup big to have. With Thad gone you can plug in boozer for a year and then tell him to get to steppin'. There's no promise Saric comes over this year anyway, which is whatever because they have Boozer to play the 4.

Still think Saric is the guy.

MICHAEL BAUMANN

What Little Jake said.

JAKE FISCHER

Chicago is getting fleeced. Do it before they back out.

MATT CAREY

Taking on J-Rich makes me feel better. Offsets Thompson this year, and next year he could be a pretty movable piece if you need to move him. I'm on board, and I'd pick Saric.

MICHAEL LEVIN

The numbers say Smart. Pelton's projection and another projection I saw in great detail (can't go into it) had Smart really, really high.

If Saric might not come over this year anyway, do we just take the BPA and live with MCW-Smart until a trade presents itself? Is anybody in favor of Smart?

KYLE NEUBECK

With J Rich outgoing it's a no brainer for me. Saric would be my pick.

DEREK BODNER

I think Smart will be the better player. I tall depends on how high you are on MCW, though. I do think Saric will be a good player/fit.

MATT CAREY

Agree with Derek. In ranking terms, I have Smart higher, but I have him on the same tier with Saric. I've got no problem with picking Smart, I think he'd be a lot of fun as a shooting guard.

TANNER STEIDEL

I'm just over here trying to figure out basic retiree medical life fee allocation. Carry on.

JAKE PAVORSKY

Jason Richardson hired you?

MICHAEL LEVIN

I think we have to pick the guy between Smart/Saric who would be the better player and see what Brown can do with them though, right? That defense with MCW/Smart/Wiggins/Noel is insane.

New offer is us throwing in J-Rich, Sac throwing in Jason Terry and us buying him out. They're also offering Quincy Acy-- am I the only one who wants Acy? I can say no to him.

MCW/Wroten
Smart/Anderson/Elliot
Wiggins/Hollis
Thompson/Boozer/Davies/Moultrie
Noel/Sims/Mullens/Varnado
BOUGHT OUT: Salmons/Terry
PICKS STILL: 19, 20, 32, 39, 47, 52, 54, 2017 NYK 2nd

MATT CAREY

Terry makes 5.8M and as far as I know, all of that is guaranteed, which totally negates throwing in J-Rich.

MICHAEL LEVIN

I think the assumption Sac is making is that he'd want to go to a contender this late in his career, and would accept a buyout from the Sixers. And it saves us about a mil from J-Rich either way.

JAKE FISCHER

Quincy Acy's beard is magical. I'm down.

MICHAEL BAUMANN

Yeah. Acy's a body. You need bodies.

MATT CAREY

I'm sure he would, but whatever his guaranteed salary is his cap number, so it doesn't add any flexibility. J-Rich would probably take a buyout too, so really you're only saving about 800K. It's something, I guess.

MICAHEL LEVIN

Let's talk Saric vs. Smart some more. I'm stressin over it and it's fake as hell.

MICHAEL BAUMANN

I think Smart and MCW would be great defensively, but whoever said at least one of them needs to be able to shoot was right. I like him, but I don't think he fits with MCW. Which, you know, whatever, you want to take BPA, but it's close enough that Saric is intriguing. I've had erotic dreams of him playing point forward like Hedo Turkoglu on the 2009 Magic with Wiggins caddying for him defensively. I'd take Saric over Smart, I think.

JAKE FISCHER

2009 Hedo Turkoglu was on my Boris Diaw Plays Like Me All-Star Team. I'm with Baumann on Saric. Very intrigued by him.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Seems like most people are like "eh, same tier, let's go Saric". Need to hear from Rich now. And obviously the rest of you who aren't saying anything yet. I'm second guessing the crap out of whatever decision I make here.

JAKE PAVORSKY

If I can get in another word, Smart should be a PG at the next level. He'll be most effective when you allow him to run the offense. Now as solid as that backcourt would be defensively, you can't draft a PG to play 2 guard when your current PG also can't shoot and you just drafted Andrew Wiggins, who is still working on the outside shooting thing. Smart doesn't make sense here.

ROY BURTON

I agree with Baumann, Fischer, et al. on Saric - I'd rather go with him here over Smart.

MICHAEL LEVIN

HEY YO ALL OF THIS IS SECRET NO TWEETING ABOUT IT YET DELETE DELETE DELETE.

MATT CAREY

It's yet another fit vs BPA argument, and since I advocated drafting for reasonable fit with during the Gary Harris Kerfuffle of 2014, I think I have to argue for it yet again and go with Saric.

If Stauskas or Harris falls, could try to package 19 and a couple of the 2nds to move up for one of them too. That'd be fun.

RICH HOFMANN

Of those two, I'd go with Saric.

MATT CAREY

Now Mike really knows what it's like to be Hinkie with leaks coming out of the front office.

MICHAEL LEVIN

hahahahahahahahahhahaaaa

JAKE PAVORSKY

Damn it. The title didn't say Super Secret Public Thread.

RICH HOFMANN

Just making sure everyone takes a look at this. It's 93 degrees outside but my computer is on fire with this take.

SOHIL DOSHI

Loved how he included current events as a way to strengthen whatever the hell his point is.

MICHAEL BAUMANN

Yeah, like I'm clicking a link with "NESN" in it

MICHAEL LEVIN

Trade was announced and Saric was selected. Charlotte is up, talking to those other teams about 2015 1sts.

KYLE NEUBECK

Did that person really invoke Iraq and Tony Gwynn dying in back to back sentences as reasons why they should "take it less seriously?" What the fuck?

Also LOL at that coming from NESN. I would rather the Sixers say nothing forever than put on some dog and pony show and draft players like Kelly fucking Olynyk, pretending like they accomplished something.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Preliminary discussions with Denver trying to eat Javale's contract in exchange for stuffs. Ideas?

JAKE FISCHER

Love JaVale... but from a distance.

JAKE PAVORSKY

Probably wouldn't be receptive to moving Fournier, right?

MICHAEL LEVIN

You know that's who I'm going for. Love Fournier. Denver guy's a big homer though, so I don't expect anything serious to go down. My first offer was Fournier/McGee/11 for Boozer/19/39. Testing waters to see how bad he wants to get rid of McGee's contract. Also mentioned we could talk absorbing Hickson's.

Got a maybe from the Denver guy. He's only open to moving 11 if his guy goes at either 9 or 10. Assuming it's gonna be LaVine -- and odds are that McDermott/Smart go with the next two picks so he'll probably be there for him.

Yeah, it's LaVine. Guessed right. Still waiting on Charlotte to pick at #9. Dallas has offered some bad trades, Washington's not interested, waiting to hear back from Portland. Rohan of the Pelicans could be into a trade for next year's first. Working on the Hawks/Thunder/Pistons as well.

SOHIL DOSHI

How's it feel channeling your inner Sam Hinkie?

MICHAEL LEVIN

Feels like home.

KYLE NEUBECK

Speaking of Hinkie, I was going back through this thread and realized I missed something before - Levin mentioning the analytics model he "can't go into." How many ZJ's did you give Sam for that type of access?

MICHAEL LEVIN

shhhhhhhhh sh shshhshshshshsh shshhhh.

Might be making a trade to slip up into 30 for 32 and 52. Mostly because I want to make another pick. Spurs guy doesn't want the cap hold of a first rounder. That's the most boring thing I've ever heard of in a fake draft. If it goes through, we have 5 picks in the first round.

MICHAEL BAUMANN

He's probably right in real life, but come on, this is for fun.

SEAN O'CONNOR

I don't want anything resembling JaVale McGee on my team. Keep him as far away as possible. (Fwiw I'd have taken Smart but I like Saric also)

DAVE RUETER

Walked out of work to 65 emails. Christ.

BRANDON GOWTON

Love this time of year :)

MICHAEL LEVIN

Next two picks going McDermott (CHA) and Smart (CHI). Denver's gonna get LaVine.

Might just sit tight the rest of the way and make my picks at 19/20/30. Feeling good about things.

JAKE FISCHER

I'm cool with just chilling there too. Five firsts holy hell.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Actually a trade offer coming in from Dallas:

Our 20th pick for their 2015 1st, Shane Larkin, and former Sixer Ricky Ledo.

I'm pretty intrigued by this, actually. Picking up a first next year is pretty huge and Dallas' could be better than 20 anyhow (obviously worse draft, but still), and Larkin/Ledo are not nothing.

BRANDON GOWTON

Idk who's still on the board but I'd say do it.

JAKE PAVORSKY

And you still have 19? Sold.

JAKE FISCHER

Do that in a heartbeat. I like both Larkin and Ledo a lot.

MICHAEL LEVIN

OK so I did some things. Trade accepted in principle:

SIXERS TRADE: #20, Jason Terry, Arnett Moultrie
MAVS TRADE: 2015 unprotected 1st, Larkin, Ledo, Ellington

SOHIL DOSHI

The last remnants of Doug Collins gone? Bravo Mike.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Yeah, with Thad, J-Rich, and Moultrie gone, Doug Collins has been officially removed from the team in every manner. He has disappeared from the photograph.

JAKE FISCHER

And he ain't walking through that door ever again. That door's been bolted shut and plastered over with a new wall.

ROY BURTON

There is the matter of that 1st-round pick that we may or may not owe Boston next year, but. I'll forgive him for that in light of WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT BOY.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Ya, and that's why I wanted the unprotected Mavs 2015 first instead of 20 when we already have 19 and 30. Bets: hedged.

Magic took Ennis, Suns (via Minnesota) took Payne and Stauskas at 13/14, Hawks took MattCarey Harris, Kings (via Chicago -- great Wilco song) took Elfrid. Celtics on the clock. We're in the hole.

Do I go 2-guard here or wait until 30 for Dinwiddie and grab somebody BPA like Nurkic here? James Young, KJ McDaniels, Hood (ew), Hairston, Adams all around. Might want to do Dinwiddie here, then a guy like Inglis at 30.

JAKE FISCHER

Cleanthony Early!

JAKE PAVORSKY

I'd consider taking Warren.

MICHAEL LEVIN

I think I want a 2-guard that can shoot to go with MCW/___/Wiggins/Saric/Noel. Or just go BPA and wait for Spencer at 30.

OK holy shit, Boston making moves. Trade announced.

Boston receives Arron Afflalo from Orlando and Ömer Aşik from Houston.
Houston receives a Traded Player Exception from Boston.
Orlando receives Jeremy Lin from Houston and the 17th overall pick from Boston.

And Orlando took Nurkic at 17. Houston just giving Asik away. We're on deck. Wolves on the clock.

SEAN O'CONNOR

That's a v nice trade for basically all of them.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Fake Boston has a solid lineup now. Rondo-Afflalo-Green-Love-Asik with Sullinger off the bench.

MATT CAREY

Is Houston allowed to sign LeBron as part of this exercise?

Also, gonna go apply to write at Peachtree Hoops now, it's been real guys.

JAKE FISCHER

How's that a good trade for Houston?

MATT CAREY

Clears max cap space for them.

JAKE FISCHER

When they were adamant about getting a first rounder for him, which I think he's worth and they dealt with Boston that has 47 picks over the next five years, not getting some kind of a pick back in return is a loss.

MATT CAREY

Sure it is, but the situation's changed over the last few months. Asik and Lin are both expiring contracts that cost $15 million in real money. Most teams aren't going to be overly thrilled to take that on. In a vacuum, sure, Asik's probably worth more, but Houston's on the clock to get rid of him and every team dealing with them knows that.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Kyle Anderson went 18. We are on the clock. Make your cases for your respective people. James Young is probably the highest ranked player left.

MICHAEL BAUMANN

I like Young. Actually I like Hood, but I don't think anyone else does so I'll shut up.

JAKE PAVORSKY

I've screamed Rodney Hood's name from multiple rooftops since about October. I'd take him over Young but I know Mike never would.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Need some more answers. Current team is:

Carter-Williams/Wroten/Larkin
Ellington/Anderson/Elliot/Ledo
WIGGINS/Hollis
SARIC/Boozer/Thompson/Acy/Davies
Noel/Sims/Mullens/Varnado

Hood/Young/Dinwiddie/Early seem to be the candidates. Any others?

MATT CAREY

Young's upside is real high for 19, and I think at worst he's an energy bench 6th man type. Even beyond my irrational James Young love, I think he's definitely the guy here.

ROY BURTON

I'm #TeamYoung as well. Basketball aside, he's on RocNation, which may or may not equal appearances by a braless Rihanna at the WFC.

I also think Young is the best value pick here, so there's that.

KYLE NEUBECK

James Young all day.

JAKE FISCHER

One thing to keep in mind, can deal Mullens unless he opts in.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Pick made. Everybody feel good about an MCW-Young-Wiggins-Saric-Noel lineup?

10 spots to go until we're up again at 30. If Stokes falls, I might want him, just as a counter to Noel/Saric. Maybe Jerami Grant for more versatility and athleticism. Or maybe I can't help myself and take Dinwiddie.

Oh jesus fuck. There's talk about restarting the whole thing with Embiid's injury. 200+ emails into it. oh god.

JAKE FISCHER

Dave's worst nightmare.

JUSTIN F.

Dave's worst nightmare? I am on vacation reading these!

Embiid has a stress fracture. He didn't die.

DAVE RUETER

Oh fuck no. Brandon, need any help at BGN?

MICHAEL LEVIN

We're starting over. Sorry everyone. The trades are going to hold, ideally.

MATT CAREY

So long, dream draft. Such a sad day.

JAKE PAVORSKY

Holy shit.

JUSTIN F.

I vote leave the first 200 emails in the eventual public thread.

KYLE NEUBECK

This is absolute horseshit. I call shenanigans.

MATT CAREY

Report: A case of beer just showed up on Seth Pollack's doorstep with a return address of "Fear the Sword, 1 Lebron James Way, Cleveland, OH"

SEAN O'CONNOR

It makes sense to re-start the draft, but man, I can't keep up with all this.

BRANDON GOWTON

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha of course, Dave, I'm always down for an Eagles edition of RTG.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Conrad emailed me asking what I wanted to trade for #1 because he's drafting Wiggins, and I told him I was too tired to back out of any of these other trades. Essentially: screw off, go take Wiggins. So we'll be getting Exum at 3.

SEAN O'CONNOR

I'm really sad about all of this.

JAKE PAVORSKY

Think the NBA should just consider disbanding at this point.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Lakers are interested in MCW. I don't think 30+MCW is worth 7+Kendall Marshall, but that's like the only trade right now. I'd probably rather just try an MCW-Exum backcourt.

BRANDON GOWTON

This is lame.

JAKE FISCHER

That's not worth it at all.

MICHAEL LEVIN

I think we're finishing the first version as planned, then starting for a 2.0 version. So the Dream Sixers will exist at least in one outdated iteration. Mavs took Capela at 20.

Nope just restarting beginning tomorrow morning. Fun! Fun, everybody!

KYLE NEUBECK

You should just email this to them repeatedly in protest.

RICH HOFMANN

I'm OK with this. I think I would've thrown my support behind Smart at 8 if I could do it over again.

MICHAEL LEVIN

OK. Wiggins-Parker went 1-2. We're on the clock at 3... again. What we thinking?

BRANDON GOWTON

Exum.

JAKE PAVORSKY

really no choice.

ROY BURTON

I won't win, but EMBIID.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Took Exum, might try to steal Embiid at 8. If it's Saric/Embiid as the best options, where do you go?

DAVE RUETER

I go Exum here, because I'm afraid, but I'm trying to talk myself into Embiid at #3. I'll willing to give Joel my foot/ankle if that will help.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Dave's got a wonky pivot foot. Lots of travel calls.

DAVE RUETER

The first thing Glenn said to me when I met him was,

"Are you the Dave who hit a three pointer in the Vegas game?"

You're damn right, Glenn.

JAKE FISCHER

I'm licking my chops for Vegas pickup ball. Oh boy am I excited.

DAVE RUETER

Pack your Hacksaw Jim Duggan shirt and Airwalks.

TANNER STEIDEL

Jordan has an extra pair if you don't have room in your bag.

JAKE PAVORSKY

I'm bringing all my pairs of Jordan's to Vegas in hopes that a player recognizes the insane amounts of swagger I have and daps me up.

JAKE FISCHER

You chumps better not make me look bad out there on the court.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Randle went to the Magic at 4 again and Utah gambled on Embiid. There's talk of keeping the rest of the draft in tact since the same top 5 held true.

Hang tight, super dream team may be in tact. Would y'all still take James Young at 19 now that we have Exum instead of Wiggins?

MICHAEL BAUMANN

How much does that change, really? I'll tell you what, if we have MCW, Exum and Saric on the floor at the same time, we're gonna need a second basketball.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Suns just offered Corey Brewer (they acquired him earlier) and the 27th pick for Jason Thompson and the 39th. SOLD. Miami is up with the 26th pick now. Here's the recent picks:

Thunder - P.J. Hairston
Grizzlies - Rodney Hood
Jazz - Cleanthony Early
Warriors (via Hornets for Harrison Barnes straight up) - Jordan Adams
Rockets - K.J. McDaniels

Suns just pulled it back, they may have a better deal with the Mavs. Ugh. Holding. Who do you guys like at 27 and 30, just so we're prepared.

If you remember (KENDALL MARSHALL!) the Suns screwed us over with accepted then unaccepted trades last mock too. Fuckers can't make up their damn minds. Which one of you is our enforcer?

DEREK BODNER

You've met Brandon, right? I'd go with him.

MICHAEL LEVIN

#SOFT

He just pulled the deal. Goddamn Fake Suns again.

BRANDON GOWTON

Curse of the muscular 05-05 Suns strikes again.

brb serial favoriting all their hot takes.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Napier/Clarkson/McGary just went, 29th is up, we're on deck. Either Jerami Grant or Jarnell Stokes is who I'm looking at right now. Think either would be a nice compliment to Saric/Noel. Or do I go draft and stash with Inglis or Bogdan? Preferences? Or I could just draft Dinwiddie and flip y'all the bird. Ballhandlers for days.

JAKE PAVORSKY

I like Stokes a lot. Little undersized but he makes his impact in the high post. Take him.

MICHAEL BAUMANN

I've got a little hard-on for Bogdan, but Stokes is probably the better pick.

BRANDON GOWTON

Grant.

JAKE FISCHER

Jerami Grant is the next Anthony Randolph. Stay away. I don't care who you take as long as it's not him.

MICHAEL LEVIN

Bogdan went 29. We got Stokes. IT IS OVER.

***

So that's that. I feel like Hinkie's war room is just like that. If you read all of that, you just won a million dollars. Not from us, but from someone.

Go Sixers. Go Draft. Go Hinkie.
