Moral Victories For Minor League Coaches

Last week as I was trying to sit through the first Philadelphia Eagles open practice my mind was somewhere else. It was cool with the excitement of the new coach, but I couldn't gauge how any of the players were developing. Which brings me to the Sixers. Most casual fans probably understand what is taking place with the rebuild. I don't think understanding will translate into support. I'm pretty sure the front office knows this too. The Sixers are now a brand that is almost completely opposite from what we've seen in years past. Hell at my age (29) it's encouraging to hear Scott O'Neil speak to Angelo Cataldi with a bit of a condescending tone. Out with the old in with the new. This group I believe is about efficiency, productivity, innovation and most importantly, contending for a championship. Now with all that said there is one thing I can't understand, and being as though tomorrow is 87er day in the first state this should be addressed; Why are we even contemplating sending Arsalan Kazemi and Furkan Aldemir overseas? Would it not make sense to just play them on the Sevens? I say put Khalif Wyatt in that system as well and let them develop in front of our eyes. I'm not going to google their stats overseas. Most likely I would just forget about them. A few months ago I heard the Sacramento Kings owner say something along the lines of he thinks each NBA team will soon have a 1 to 1 direct relationship with a D-League team. This needs to happen. Baseball got this one right. Fans who are invested in their teams love to see a Ryan Howard or Dom Brown come up through the "system." The D-League stigma has to disappear. I doubt sending them overseas is a money issue for ownership and they are cutting cost. Maybe soon they might have to cut a fatter check to D-league players but this is just a win win for everybody. People in Rio Grande, Grand Rapids or Wilmington DE can get their money's worth and watch a player who could one day be an All-Star. #America
