Coaching Search Update: Sixers Considering Memphis Grizzlies Player Development Coach Lloyd Pierce

There were no photos of Lloyd Pierce available, so here's Sam Hinkie instead. - USA TODAY Sports

Hey, we haven't had one of these updates in a while!

WE INTERRUPT YOUR PREVIOUSLY SCHEDULED PROGRAMMING TO GIVE YOU A SIXERS COACHING UPDATE!

As you might have realized, the Sixers are the only team in the NBA currently without a head coach.

Late last night on Twitter, Peter Vescey tweeted the following:

I can easily say I've never heard of this guy, and the chances are you never have either. Heck, he doesn't even have a Wikipedia page! (Somebody better get on that.)

What Vescey mentioned about player development holds true though. Here's his [outdated] profile from NBA.com:

Lloyd Pierce joins the Warriors after spending the previous three seasons as the player development coordinator for the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he worked closely with the team’s players on individual skill development.

A Bay Area native from San Jose, Pierce attended Santa Clara University from 1994-1998, where he was a four-year letterman and helped lead the Broncos to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances. Following his college career, Pierce played professionally in Mexico, Australia and Germany before returning to Santa Clara to join the team’s coaching staff under Dick Davey.

Player development is a certainly a quality that Sam Hinkie has identified and prioritized in his coaching search. All of the Sixers rumored targets have shared this qualification. That's likely going to be the theme of the upcoming Sixers season as well. It's not going to be about wins, since they're going to be bad. It's all about player development.

Considering the limited information out there, that's about all I have on Pierce. It's something to keep an eye on for now though - stay tuned.

Hinkie forever.
