Source: Potential Sixers Coach Brett Brown Leaning Towards Boston Celtics Job

Some guys that won't coach the Celtics next year, probably. - USA TODAY Sports

It appears everybody jumped the gun on draft night.

While it looks like Brett Brown will be leaving the San Antonio Spurs with zero of Gregg Popovich's top assistants, he may not be ditching him for Sam Hinkie and the Sixers. A source close to the Spurs organization has informed Liberty Ballers that the Boston Celtics and Brett Brown have mutual interest, and a signing may be imminent.

Brown had met with San Antonio GM R.C. Buford last night to weigh his options, and while it was originally thought that Philadelphia was topping the list, it appears that the Maine native prefers to return to New England to replace Doc Rivers for Danny Ainge's tanking Celtics. Brown's father still coaches in the area, so the appeal is understandable.

The Celtics and Sixers remain the only two teams in the NBA without a head coach. There's no timetable as to when, but it sounds like Boston will soon be off that exclusive list. If Hinkie and Buford are to be believed, Brown hadn't even interviewed for the Sixers job. And as we know, Sam's not too concerned about filling the head coaching position until after Summer League.

Other potential coaching hires for the Sixers include Chris Finch and other people we are less enamored with than Chris Finch. Read about all the Sixers coaching drama here.
