Why Bynum Might Still Make Sense

While perhaps not likely, there remains every case to be made for signing Andrew Bynum for a one year max contract if you are the Sixers. The reason? Should Bynum recover, it would mean we'd have a proven superstar caliber big in house - and have assets to use to attract other free agents to build around him. It might make the our pick worth less, but at the expense of having a legitimate superstar it would be worth it. Should Noel look terrific to, we could use one of them as a trade chip and keep the other. If Bynum can't play - it helps our tankability quotient - and his cap money would free up at season's end. We'd enter 2014 with 2 first round picks, 3 second round picks in a solid draft - with as much as $36 million of available cap space. Sounds like a reasonable risk that helps us build potentially valuable assets to me. That's how much flexibility we've established with these recent moves.
