MAYBE: Sixers Hire San Antonio Spurs Assistant Brett Brown to be Head Coach

USA TODAY Sports

The Sixers are jamming their entire offseason into four hours.

Take that, Philadelphia media. Sam Hinkie hasn't spoken any words to the media just yet but he is certainly saying things with all these moves. After having an absolutely ballsy first round of the draft, news broke that the Sixers have finally hired a coach. And if the rumors are true, it's San Antonio Spurs longtime assistant Brett Brown.

The news was first brought to us, I think, by the NY Daily News. Other people we trust have made it a bit more official. The Sixers met with him a few weeks ago, and here's what Sean said.

According to his profile on the Spurs website, Brown has been with the team since 2002, working in both player development and as an assistant coach. That dual profile fits well for a Sixers team building from the ashes, needing a coach with experience in player development. If he doesn't get this job, he'll likely ascend to the top assistant role previously held by Mike Budenholzer. He also coached professional teams in Australia for 14 years, and currently coaches the Australian national team, which is cool.

Here's a video (via Brandon) of him doing some coaching.

I love it. He's no Houston assistant, but he's learned under Gregg Popovich and Budenholzer for a long time and he's all about player development. He's the perfect coach for where the Sixers are and where they are going.

We'll have so so so much more on this, but now I just wanted to get it out there. This guy is not Doug Collins. Not Doug Collins at all.

SAM HINKIE WILL FEED YOU SOUP AND YOU WILL LIKE IT. BUT DID THEY HAVE TO DO IT ON DRAFT NIGHT?!?!?!

Such a power play. Damn. I'm in awe.
