Something that we've all assumed to be true will finally be made official: According to a report from Chris Broussard of ESPN, Allen Iverson will announce his retirement at the Philadelphia 76ers' home opener against the Miami Heat on October 30.

The news isn't a complete surprise: Back in August, SLAM's Tzvi Twersky wrote that the 11-time All-Star was going to make a similar announcement over the summer, but nothing ever came of those rumors.
Iverson last played in an NBA game on February 20, 2010, and despite a burning desire to return to the league, he simply couldn't find a team that was willing to give him another chance. Once his retirement is official, Iverson will be eligible for Hall of Fame induction in 2015.
This may not be the last time we see Iverson as it relates to the Sixers, however: David Aldridge of NBA.com reports that The Answer may be joining the franchise in some sort of advisory capacity:
[S]ources indicate that the organization may be discussing some kind of post-playing position for Iverson. Though he wouldn't be expected to have input with the current coaching staff, Iverson could travel with the team on occasional road trips.
It's unknown if the proceedings on October 30 will include a jersey retirement ceremony: At the time of this writing, the 76ers were unable to confirm any of the various reports.
