How can you call yourselves 76'ers fans and not pay homage to one of this teams greats getting into the HOF? Chet is one of the stars from the first 76er team to win a Championship. He was the third leading scorer behind Wilt Chamberlain and Hal Greer. Yes, I know it's before your time, or most of you, but the franchise isn't that old or so detailed that you can't remember a Sixers All Star. Here's to CHET THE JET WALKER!
Before Alex Hanum passed away I had the chance to chat with him and ask about this great 66 team. Alex said that this was the best team of all time, and could have beaten any time since when his players were in their prime.
When I try to build a basketball team, the model I use is that 76'ers team. They had dominant size, great defense, an unstoppable offense that went inside out and outside in. Their shooting was incredible, their ball handling and passing exceptional. For that one season, the 76ers came as close to basketball perfection as has ever been done. 68 - 13. In a league with fewer than 20 teams and every team had decent talent, that was an incredible achievement.
